The Rod Club (2008-2013): NOW FROZEN

Dear all.

The Rod Club has now been frozen, with the final updates made to the homepage 24th August 2013.

Active between 2008 and 2013 we have a huge 5 years' worth of Rods in the Elite Section! This reached 50 members a while ago, and has now been renamed 'MOCpages Top 50 Rod Builders'. As such no further updates will be made, and this section will forever be the Top 50 as it is today.

The Rod Of The Moment award has now also ceased. The final winner (Sam Wright) has been removed and added to the Roll Call list of all previous winners. The trophy and the previous winners list will now take a permanent place in the ROTM section.

Thank you very much for your contributions and creations. For 5 years The Rod Club was THE group on MOCpages.

Whilst the group homepage will no longer be updated the group is of course still accepting new members and new creations. The homepage will remain frozen from the 24th August 2013, and is now primarily a list of the Top 50 Rod Builders of MOCpages' past.

Happy Building : )

Hi Ape,

This is very, very sad news. The group has had a very good run over the last 5 years but it is sad to see it all finished. I know that, fir a fact, rod & kustom building in LEGO has really suffered over the last year or two and no one seems to be building anything like what yourself, Dylan Denton, Apple Pie, Tyler Reid, Jonathan Derksen, Patrick L, Firas Abu- Jaber, Tim Inman and many other great rod builders, have accomplished over the past years. You and every other rod builder brought new innovation every time a new rod was posted. These are the people that brought me to MOCpages, because I wanted (and still strive) to become one of the best rod builders on the Internet and my goal ever since I joined here was to become an 'Elite Nember' and maybe one day, just one day, I could earn the ROTM Award. Although I did accomplish these objectives, I still somehow feel that my goal here was never reached. I had always strived to get 3 or more ROTM's and become an administrator so I could become (on stats) the best rid builder around, but now I can not achieve this goal.

Although it hurts to say it, but I'm glad you ended the group whilst it was still respected among builders, unlike those groups that just eventually fade away and everyone forgets that they were ever a member. It's an honour to proudly say that I am in the top 50 rod builders of MOCpages and that I achieved something that, at first, seemed so far away but now I can also say that I earned not one, but two ROTM's!

I know that I was probably a bit annoying at first, always bugging you about getting a ROTM award or trying to get into the Elite Section, but I'm glad that you chose to shut down the group whilst it was still 'alive'. It's very disappointing to see such great builders, like most mentioned above, cone and go and that no one else has ever taken their places, although they would be huge shoes to fill, it's just sad to see everyone building Lambo's and Ferrari's etc. and even LEGO, never making another 'hot rod' set. I feel that one day, there may be no more rods being built here, or on any other LEGO community website. I've noticed that The Rod Club died off a few years ago on Flickr, unfortunately.

Maybe one day we could 're-boot' the group and gave it running like it was back in it's 'gloden era'.

I'm so sad to see it all finished now and I wish that it had of kept on, I just feel like there is still that little 'something' missing in my building now.

Sorry to hear this Ape

LEGO, never making another 'hot rod' set.

There's a Technic one coming next year.

Yes, but it's just not the same. It needs to be in that old school Model Team style and have a real 'hot rod' look and feel to it, just like the original.

Thanks Aaden, you were/are one of the core members of this group : )

Every good thing will end, but who knows- one day people may start building Rods again, and this group may see a renaissance.

I'm proud to have been a part of one of the best and most popular groups MOCpages has seen, and as the Club was going before the 'Groups' feature even existed, I'm pretty sure we were the first group on MOCpages.

It's been a great privilege : )

Sorry Wormy, it's unfortunate timing for you seeing as you've just joined. As we wind down operations here it leaves the door open for new groups like yours to try to fill the space : ) We've had a phenomenal run. 5 years might not sound a lot, but in MOCpages terms it's a lifetime.

All the best

Hey Ape,

Just thought that I'd let you know(if you haven't already seen it), that I wrote an article about The Rod Club on The LEGO Car Blog. I got in contact with the guys from TLCB after you announced that the group was closing the Elite Section and ROTM award. I thought that it would be nice to let the rest of the LEGO community know just how much of an impact this group had on MOCpages.

I hope that you enjoy my article and I hope that one day we could re-build the group and have it as popular as it was in its 'golden era'.

Thank you for running such an incredible group for the past 5 years and thank you for getting me started here on MOCpages. Who knows; maybe if there was never The Rod Club, I may have never joined MOCpages.
