What Was Your 1st Set?

So, the Pied Pauper came up with a great idea for a conversation thread to get activity up again: What was your first SW set or Lego set in general and what kind of story do you have about it?

I was fortunate enough to start collecting the SW sets when they first came out in 1999. It was this new theme that actually got me into mocing in the first place.

I believe my first set was the Lightsaber Duel with Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. I was super-excited about Episode I...then I saw it.

What was yours'?

I'm dating myself here, but my first ever set was 565 Moon Landing that came out in 1975 at the tender age of 7. It blossomed from there with my all time favorite pre-SW set being the 497 Galaxy Explorer. I built Lego like kids today play video games.
I went through some dark ages in my twenties, then got back into it in 1999 with my first SW set being the 7110 Landspeeder and that's when I started MOCing.

Wow, man! So you're a few years older than I ( we won't state ages here). I honestly can't remember my first non-SW set. I know I had some early castle sets (because I have a ton of yellow bricks and old-school knights) and at least 1 Blacktron set.

Chronologically older, probably. I was really into the space thing back then. I had four or five Blacktron sets along with my Classic Space sets. And I, along with tons of other kids I'm sure, made my first Land Speeder in 1977, long before any of the SW sets came out. I also tried to make a Tie Fighter and X-wing, but they weren't all that good since I had limited parts.

Well, it was worth a try. At least we know a bit more about each other!

For some reason I didn't get emails when people started commenting again...

I didn't really have a first set as I inherited a huge collection from my brother. One of the first sets I remember building though was the 1999 set Speeder Bikes. I didn't get it in 1999 but that was when it was released.

Cool, man! That was kind of a tiny set, but more for your money compared to now. Like I said, I started "back in the day" in '99...
