The Rules

PLEASE read these carefully before asking any questions… Read it twice if you have to. If you still have any questions, I’ll be happy to clarify.

Most of you know the basic rules of the games. This is set up as a tournament style Moc-Off consisting of players paired against each other in a series of rounds. Each round has a category randomly assigned to it (no, you don’t get to choose your category) in which the players will compete. After the players have posted their mocs, three judges will render their decisions and the winner of that match will advance to the next round. Simple enough. Now we get into the details of how this works.

1 Deadlines: You will have 10 days from the time I post the round's match-ups to create and post your moc. Last year, it was two weeks and that just dragged out way too long. You will have to post your creation by 12:00 midnight, U.S.A. Eastern Standard Time. That means, when the MOC of the Day changes on the 10th day, you’d better have your creation posted. If you’re late, you FORFIET! No exceptions!

Posting Early: If you can build your creation and have it ready to post before the deadline AND you can coordinate with your opponent to post early, then you BOTH may do so. If your opponent is not ready to post early, you MUST wait until the 8th day to post. That way, we don’t have one person posting on the 3rd day and the other posting at the last second and someone gets lost in the shuffle. Again, you CAN post earlier, just coordinate with the other player and both of you can post early. I repeated that because I KNOW I’m going to get questions on it…

2 Your creation’s title: Your post will be titled as follows.
MocOlympics Round (whatever round it is). (Your name) vs (opponent’s name)

In the first line of your creation, put the category you’re competing in AND a link to either you opponents home page or (if they posted before you) their MocOlypmics post.

3 Judges decisions: The judge’s decision are FINAL! There will be no whining if you lose. There are 64 people in the first round and 32 of you will not be going on to round two. I know it sounds harsh, but that’s the way the game works. There can be only one winner and as much fun as it is to win, this game is REALLY about just being a part of it.

4 Bricklink: NO BRICKLINK! Everyone is going to have the same chance here. No one is allowed to make any bricklink orders, or hit pick-a-brick, or go to Toys R Us or Target and stock up on parts. You’re on the honor system here, so be good or Santa WILL find out.

5 Photoshop: No Photoshop! If you want to give your creation a nice white background, no problem, but NO Kelso wannabes here. We’re judging you on build, not computer skills.

Other than that, you have free reign! Remember, the main goal here is for everyone to have fun! Just follow these simple rules and we’ll all be fine. Good luck to everyone!
… now comes the influx of questions.

If I get Suburban Clones, I won't make it, I got no clones either, and I'm not going to buy any.

Well, even if I'm not quite into SW Lego (but I love the classic trilogy) I guess that bricks are bricks, no matter which box they come from... What can you suggest me that is small but has 2 or 3 'troopers?

Smallest with Clones is probably the Clone Battle pack with that walker.

Just i case I do build, I just completed my first bricklink order (Woo Hoo!), and got two Storm Troopers, as well as a bunch of other stuff. About $35 worth... Lets hope it is needed!

I did not participate last year, and would like to know how and when we find out who we are up against. And as soon as we find out, is that when the 10 days start?

Excuse me, but I think is a little confusing to add the creation in the same day at midday or midnight... Cause and if someone live in another country? Thanks!

Sorry Chris, when I'm still unsure of when this starts. If it starts after August 6th, then I'll be good to play, but if not, then I don't think I'll be able to compete, as I'm away the last week of July and the first week of August.

wow, by taking away Bricklink you just made everyone get an UNFAIR chance because some people are crazy rich or something and get every single set that comes out. Others don't have much and therefor cannot simply some Bricklink to make up for it.

Don't fret, Gus! I only got like a "bowlful" of bricks myself. Just need to get more creative than those who got their own Pick-A-Brick wall in their houses. I mean, Dave Sterling got a lair. Prof Eggy mentioned he got like 45k bricks and 400 minifigs. Even if we're allowed to buy more, there's no way to match their supply. I say channel your efforts in formulating how to topple goliath.

You can use LDD to design your build, but LDD will NOT be accepted as an offical entry, nor are you allowed to order ANY parts at any time for your build. I've never used LDD myself, but if I understand correctly, in LDD you design a creation and then you can order it through lego. This is basically the same thing as ordering through bricklink. So that, you CAN'T do. Feel free to use the computer to "design" anything you want, but you CANNOT ORDER ANY PARTS.

I will be making a new thread with the matchups, who's competing against who and in what category. I don't have an exact start date yet, but it looks like it will be about the second week of August. I'll let everyone know the exact date as it gets closer.

A brief word on the "no photoshop" rule. Allow me to clarify. As stated above, if you'd like to make a nice white background for you MOC, that's fine. Additionally, if you would prefer to use "word bubbles" instead of having dialog on the side of the pics, that's ok too. we just don't want to see laser blasts and fog effects and things of that nature. Just to be safe, only use computer effects for word bubbles from speaking characters and to clean up a background. Thanks.

A small note on the LDD creations.. When you upload them to lego it takes upwards of 4-6 weeks before you'll even see them (depending on your country of origin) as Lego has to collect the bricks and package them.. So it would be a futile effort to even try LDD to order them..

the idea is to use ldd as a tool to give yourself the idea of what you want to build without actually building it until you have a finished product. you use your own bricks to make the final, but ldd will just save you a mess to clean up when you experiment with designs.

Wise words. Look at Ocean, he does not have a large collection, yet he builds beautifully and creatively.

Those with large collections are really just compensating for a lack of creativity anyways.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be using LDD to design the models (or as much of it as possible), and then build. I just wouldn't order bricks from it even if I could.

Imagination, not parts will be your advantage. I got a nice size collection and I got beat by a snotty nosed kid with a bowlful of bricks. I wonder what ever happened to that guy?

I'm going to miss those 4 extra days to the deadline. I'm a slow thinker. And I'm lazy. I'm not to sure on the time zone thing either. I'll ask my computer, it'll know.
