Here's one, during the Second Crusade, Fredrick Barbarossa, the Holy Roman Emperor, was leading his army through the desert to the Holy Land. After weeks in the desert he stopped at a nearby lake, took a swim, and drowned. Some say he forgot to take off his armor before he swam.

Well I did not hear that, but most history books tell you he drowned while crossing the Calycadnus river: Frederick had served with his uncle Conrad in the Second Crusade, and in 1188, though in his 70th year, he took the Cross again, and set out for Outremer in 1189 with the largest single force ever to go on a crusade. After a difficult journey across Byzantine territory he reached Turkey, only to be drowned crossing the Calycadnus river in June 1190.

The Greek word "fish"-IXOYE-forms the acrostic "Iesous, Christos, Theou, Yios, Soter" or "Jesus, Christ, God's, Son, Savior". So the fish became an ancient Christian symbol.
