Hi all,
As those of you who know me a little more on here will know, since going to university over a thousand miles away from home, I've not been too active on MOCpages - mainly because my lego is at home; and I tend to get back into checking other people's creations around the same time as I build my own.
Of course whenever a holiday pops up that I come back home, it's nice to get back into building models (amongst the many other things I miss) and I get back into it full swing... until I have to go back for another semester of studies.
Well, this year I'm going to make a little more effort to stay around all year (assuming I don't somehow forget or miss a deadline... hopefully some of you will stay alert as well) and organise various contests all year round.
As those of you who ave seen my creations will know, I'm mainly into building cars, Star Wars models; and other space-themed models, as you'll have seen with my Black Sun Empire series. I've noticed that nmost people on here seem to be nearly all of one or the other, so there's the possibility that I'll organise two or possible three series of contests side by side throughout the year, with very different themes.
I'm thinking of monthly contests - besides the waits when I don't have the parts, it's rarely taken me more than half a week of actual building on any of my big cars, so a month should be more than enough - with related themes.
For example, this year I'm thinking of doing car-building contests with each month's theme being 'build a car from X decade', progressing through time as the year goes along. Next year, each month may be by country, or category of vehicle.
For star wars contests, I haven't gotten an exact plan yet, though it may not necessarily be every month, and themes could easily be based on time period, faction, or type of vehicle/building.
Of course there may be some 'free contests' where you can build anything you like and be judged on build quality and imagination.
Knowing my own situation, supposedly others are sometimes away from their lego so I'll not be too strict when mmaking rules - if you don't think you'll have tiime, or don't have enough parts left to build something suitable, or have an older model that you think would be perfect for the contest - then of course you can enter something you've already built.
I'll also be able to make small exceptions with deadlines if you make me aware of the case beforehand - I know how horrible it can be if you've worked on something for ages, and so nearly finished when the deadline comes, then you finish it the day after... you'll still be able to enter it :)
Not a week later though lol...
I won't enter any of my own creations, to be fair, and judging will be done objectively, based on important things like build quality, detail, accurateness compared to the original (except when making up your own imagined model of course), and imagination and inventiveness in the case where you do have to make up your own model. Entires will not be judged by things such as the builder's reputation, or the amount of people who 'like' an entry - such things shouldn't have an influence and are unfair; we all start somewhere and there are man very good builders on here who are not yet known to the community - hopefully we'll be able to give some of them a chance to shine :)
All entries will be judged equally and places given to first, second and third best.
So there we go... that's my plan. Hopefully I'll be able to stick to it (=remember it), and for those who are reading this, you'll have a little heads up information :)
Stay alert, when I make each contest page, I shall post a link in this thread as well; you're all welcome to participate in any contest which appeals to you, and help invite others you may think are interested to increase the volume and variety of entries.
In the meantime, I hope you all had a merry christmas, and have a happy new year !
