New Members?
 Group admin
This was originally a place to suggest new members, but then it sort of turned into just a conversation between me, Phong, Dali, and Lego19, so if you're new and don't know what to do... well, this isn't what you're looking for. Just post some of your best mechs and maybe start a conversation. Oh, and welcome to the FORGE!

I stay undecided, since he's (from one to 10, like 6) more-than-average Mech Builder. I suggest we wait until he improves himself with something "out of this world" mech and we debate for it...Until now, -nay-

Hey all, I know that I never write in these conversation columns, but I thought we should probably start this one. Right now I bring to our attention Justin Sanders http://mocpages.com/home.php/17951?>; So... yay or nay? (I only need one yay and he's in so think carefully, and no arguing, these are the original rules layed down by Phong and me on the original FORGE page http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/17265. so gentlemen, cast your votes!

We can invite Justin when he's ready.

I was asking LC, but you REEEAALLY need to watch it sometime. It IS the best anime ever. You might say that's just an opinion, but it is so high up there that it got to the point that it's too obvious to deny. It's like comparing it to Naruto. Naruto fans who haven't seen TTGL will tell me that it's just my opinion that TTGL's better than Naruto, but I know for a fact that once they see TTGL, they'll agree. Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann has reached that level. You know how some things would fall into the category of opinion by definition, but you still know you're right? TTGL is one of those situations that you have to set opinion aside.

I does sound odd. But it's really delicious. You have to go to an authentic greek/gyro resturaunt though. Here's a tip. If you're in a normal diner type place and you see gyro on the menu. do 2 things. 1. ask the waiter(ess) to pronounce it. If they say Yee-Ro, it's good. If they say Jie-Ro, don't get it. If they say it correctly , ask if the lamb's pre-cut. If they say yes, don't get it. If not, you're good to go!

Very true. I'm gonna try learning Japanese. Anyway, yes, Izzo has had only 2 years, but being an adult, he probably can afford more parts. Either way, that's still some epic skill! I've been building LEGO in general for about a year, but mecha for a bit less, maybe 9-10 months. I'm gonna try to make sure that by my 2nd year of building, I will reach the skill of Izzo!!!

Have you noticed that building Dawn Forge is more like building ships rather than mechs. It's easier than it seems, but still takes loads of skill and parts. I've built Dawn Forge in my mecha beginning days, and the building technique feels more like building a ship or vehicle with legs. I personally prefer Izzo style. It's more challenging, fun, and cool looking if done right.

I just want to mention I'll be spending about $100 on new parts from PAB...
Lots and lots of white, grey, black, green, and tan pieces, should be an interesting color mix. I still have nowhere near the collection that izzo or moko have, nor do I have much money, being a poor college student. izzo is married and has children; he is a hardcore AFOL.. I doubt he can speak much English too (notice how he uses the word "taste" in the wrong way all the time -- cute but shows lack of fluency)

Yeah, I agree. PS: Dali, how long have you been serious at building mecha? I have built mecha in general for like 9 months, but I started building serious mecha back around July 11 2008, then got into vigs from Sept 4th to Oct 3rd 2008, then got back into mecha on Oct 4th and so on. I've been building mecha seriously for about 6 months or less. (I had to also subtract my 1 month of grounding.)

I started around January of this year, so about 3 months. I haven't spent that much time building, In January I built a really crappy mech that I scrapped. Then in February I built that AC mecha which I based off of your Vulcan which I didn't like so I scrapped it too. Then around the start of this month I built my first serious, original mecha, the Lightning, using only parts I had in my original collection which has no T pieces. After I got my PAB pieces I built the Vanguard using almost exclusively PAB parts and very few of my existing collection. I like the Lightning more and would not like to scrap it, but I think I can build a much better mecha using PAB parts and some from my old collection.

Well Phong, I've spent all my life doing that, although I never had the chance of building one until I got Exo-Force sets, so the fact is that (OFFICIALLY) I've spent almost 2 years on this. And of course Dali, I'm also working on the PAB thing so I can get parts for "upgrading" my ACores, since I'm Exagerately low on parts, especially the T-clips, the 1x1 3-side brick and all those. wish me luck, sine it's my first time that I order pieces through pick a brick. -LC-

I'm sure you didn't mention me with this, and I'm not sure if I yet have enough prestige to speak here, but I do have XBL on my 360. I also have Armored Core: For Answer, Halo 3 and about 15 other online games. Unfortunately, my connection sucks at the moment, which is the reason why in AC:FA 1 of every 23 shots I fire with sniper cannons registers a hit... and THAT is why I'm one of the lowest people in my grade in ranked (stupid lag shielding!!!!)

Sniper is my favorite weapon too...During the last game I played in months of Halo 3, I played against a bunch of nine-year-olds who were telling me 'how bad I was gonna get PWND'. Long story short, I got three double kills and one triple with sniper alone, and they were complaining postgame. EPIC WIN! But yeah, I suck pretty bad in FA because my internet nulls 99% of my shots. Also, everyone lag-warps-- I once played a game with a guy who inch-bladed me from around 750 distance (whatever they measure with in AC games)!

I've played matchmaking games where all I got was headshots, and I got 15 kills, which means 15 headshots.I've also played a custom game with the same principal, but with 25 headshots! PWNAGE!!! I love sniping people as they fly off of the mancannons. In fact, I sniped a guy with half camo in the back of the head as he was flying. I also noscoped a ghost as it got grenaded and flew while flipping rapidly at lightning fast speeds right at me!! I wish I kept it.

Alright, I'm not THAT good (were you actually trying to hit the guy with halfcamo, or was it luck-- be honest!), but I do have my moments from time to time. My favorite custom games are infinite ammo snipes on 'Fundry', which is basically an open square, with headshots only; and Siege, on Siege, both of which I made myself... Nothing Beats this in My books:

Take a pistol, and have it as a secondary weapon, and use it on the ARK levels, use it on the one where you have to get onto the highway where you shut down the shield covering the entrance.

step 1: Stand right out in the open holding the pistol.
2: wait till a brute chopper is coming right at your face.
3: wait till he is in pistol range (or so that you can just see his head) which will give you 1 sec to get away, or (next step)
3a: Get Run over and die...Or in My books:
3b: Hit him once in the head with a single pistol round (within the 1 second gap) and he should drop dead at the controls and the chopper should just touch you and just deplete your shields.
That is PWNGE in my books, and I do It every time in Multi-Player online.
So guys, if you are about to run over a spartan, and you just happen to see him holding a pistol, prepare to die, as that is most likely me.

How does this work? is there some kind of glitch that increases bullet power against the Chopper driver? 1 pistol headshot doesn't kill someone normally (and I should know, it's my #2 weapon in social). Also, for true unbeatable-ness:
on ARK, hijack a Brute Chopper, then keep it from the beginning up until the monitor makes his little 'happy hole' in the wall. Keep going, and hold onto the Chopper all the way to the section with the stealth Brutes. Then, boost up the lip of the ramp, right at the door, and you go through. Continue along through the tunnels in this Chopper, continually running over everything in your way. At the part where it opens into a clearing with a Brute praying in the middle, you can go fast enough to run him over. I have a pic of him crouching there, praying... with a chopper 2 inches behind his face!! This is a REALLY easy way to beat the mission on Legendary.

Seriously, though, I was hooked from the first time I saw it... first five minutes of episode one alone is worth $20 in my book! Also, have you read the manga, Dali? I'm thinking about changing my homepage title to the BEST QUOTE EVER from the manga adaptation (if you've read it, you know the line of which I speak). If there's a better way to view them legally online I don't know it, but I'm open to suggestions. Also, I've watched it online through the linked video and the others posted by the same guy (name is 'Kwan Ping Del Toro', or something), but I can't speak for the other stuff youtube brings up. Quality is, as one might expect from Youtube, very poor at times.

And now for something completely different...

You like Metroid, right? If yes, which one is your favorite, and which ones have you played? I'm partial to Super Metroid myself, but I own every one except Metroid II.

Alright, me and prime one is like Phong and TTGL. I know every secret (floaty-glitch, secret worlds, out of order play (ever fought Thaurdus with the plasma beam? Notice that your suposed to beat him to get the spider ball, which in turn you're SUPPOSED to need to get the plasma beam, yeah.) I speed-run with the best on out of order and in order, I GOT THROUGH MAGMOOR WITHOUT THE VARIA SUIT (after about God only knows how many tries, i managed to finish with three help left though)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFOcGsHwI3w&feature=channel_page <-proof (not me) ... and so on.... As an explination, Metroid Prime was my first REAL game. I'd played plenty before, but I'd never really gotten into any of them. then one day I was in gamestop, just looking, and I saw a game for $6.99. I'd recalled reading something about it in my friend's game informer along time ago, so I got it. I played through the first mission, shamefully dying against the queen parasite. But I was hooked. After finally beating it 100% on hard I figured I was done. Then one fatefull night I was bored and played around on the ship, right when you get in. I accidentally scan jumped and landed on the ledge that leads to the space jump, I realized this and then a whole dancing plethora of Metroid Prime options opened up for me. After managing to do a few more things I discovered metroid2002.com. I learned from the masters and now I still play it on a regular basis. If you asked me what my favorite game is I wouldn't even think about it. I'd automatically answer "Metroid Prime" with out a doubt. I am extremely sorry to say that I never had the chance to play Super Metroid, that was before my time. But now that I have a wii I am looking forward to downloading it and trying it out. I have to say though, I found that corruption was much better than echos. Possibly purely for this reason. Prime one had Phendrana Drifts. Corruption had Skytown AND Ice Bryyo (wich, for me was like being smacked upside the head with nostalgia) and Echos had what? Sanctuary temple? I don't think so. Although I did like the ing-smashers more than the beserker pirates from corruption and it DID have the dark beam expansion. But I feel that echos was missing something that corruption and Prime one both had. Echos was still among the best of the Gamecube, but it was following a tough act to beat. so in decending order, my favorite prime games would have to be 1, 3, and 2. Keep on building ~ Nowhereman

So, you found Metroid2002.com too huh!? Well then, let me respond by saying: I've done it all too. Fighting Thardus with Plasma Beam is very fun-- he's extra vulnerable to it for no apparent reason! Let me ask you something-- You ever fought Flaaghra via 'Genius' method? Ever used the 'metroid bounce' SW? Ever done the series of clipping glitches and frame warps required to enter Furnace early? Ever beaten Omega Pirate without shooting once? Ever used floaty jump and secret worlds to get around the exterior of the Chozo ruins into the tunnels to the rear of Magmoor caverns, bypassing the entire middle section of gameplay? I think it's fairly safe to say we're on the same page here. In fact, in MP3, I nearly discovered a new secret world myself. Super Metroid being made the year after I was born has done nothing to keep me from playing it-- Wii Virtual Console, quasi-legal ROM downloading and SMILE modding software have allowed me to leave a mark on what I consider the best action game of all time! As a birthday gift to myself, I ordered a Super Nintendo just to play Super Metroid. Soon, I will order Metroid II, and then my collection of gracious obscenity will be large enough to dominate the world! Mwahahahahahahahahahah!!!!! I also discovered a bizarre glitch in Super Metroid from the Wii version-- for some reason, touching fake Kraid results in instant death.

And, though I'm by no means a world-class 'runner', I have three speedrun files on Metroid Zero Mission: One complete in 1:16:06, normal route; one stalled at Mother Brain fight at 0:38:36, Ridley before Kraid; and one also stalled at Mother Brain fight at 0:42:50, normal route, but with many more powerups.

...And yes, I DO think I'm long winded, darn it!

Alright, I give you Skytown and ice Bryyo, and Phendrana is just UBER. Everything about Phendrana makes it my favorite area from any game, ever(the music in the 'back' half of Phendrana (by edge) is awesome). Oh, and my favorite game all around is Prime, BTW. Favorite Boss is Ridley, Prime pulling a very, very close second. It's not so much that I really like Echoes as it is that I really hate Corruption. Echoes, though, did have some cool stuff: Amorbis (looks like something from H.R. Giger), Quadraxis ('nuff said) and quads, Emperor Ing's last form, and dark Samus when she was cool. In the third game, I've made her kill herself with her final attack... and if that isn't sad, I don't know what is... The reason I hate Corruption? STUPID INVISIBLE WALLS! So... Few... New... Secret...Worlds...
And I nearly found one, gaaah!

Dude, we should start a metroid freaks group. Despite not having any metroid related creations. Mayhaps after forming it we'll be inspired to build some. Also, you may have read my post about my multi-year project (that I haven't started yet) well, building a phendrana drifts based creation would be good practice because of the snow (you may or may not be able to figure out what I'm planning by now). Either way, let me know what you think. and one last thing, are you homeschooled like me? Just curious. Keep on building ~ Nowhereman

My opinion is that Echoes was more "challenging" than Corruption, since it used a great variety of strategic poitns and ways to defeat a boss (Ie: Spider Guardian, Boost Guardian, Quadraxis, etc...) and also getting ammo expansion (missile and beam). But also Corruption has other things that Echoes didn't have: like unlimited beam ammo, no power bomb (WHY?!) and the ability to "jump by shaking the Wii Remote. One thing I can tell is that Echoes is good with the story, but Corruption's good with the difficulty of the soty, since it's more longer and it's more challenging. And you've heard?! There's a rumor of a 4th installement of a Metroid 3D Game... I think It's called: Metroid: Evolution or something.

Well, if we are going to make a metroid freak group, we shoudlstar designing more or less the MOC. Perhaps I can help with it. -LC-

Yes, we definitely should... As for your huge thing, I have some ideas about what you may be planning, but I'm not sure... I actually have the same kind of multi-year project planned (while, two to be precise): one, a 360-stud long SHIP, called the 'Radiant Chaos'; the other a 220-stud tall mech, known as the 'Authority', which I have sooooo many concept sketches for. Every time I get an idea, I tweak the design, but what I have now I love. If I ever get the parts to build either of these, I will. I also have some concept for the 'Radiant Chaos', and the 'Sarpedon' MBT that will be up in a few weeks, and the 'Zeus' class tank, based off the Emperor Ing's cool from and designated as the successor to the Sarpedon (in Greek mythos, Sarpedon is one of about 700 different sons of Zeus). In response to the very beginning part-- I don't know if you noticed, but in the 'macharius' comment section I replied to your comment saying that I'm in the middle of making a minifig scale quad. I'd also love to do Quadraxis, and maybe Emperor Ing sometime. To answer your question: Nope. I go to regular high school, sorry.

And as for the homeschool question, I was just curious since you were posting during school hours (schools hours for FL at any rate) and yeah, I think I'll get the group made (although it might not be up untill tomorrow). It'll be private but I have a few people I'm thinking of inviting. Adminship will be like FORGE pretty much (btw, did you ever check out the original FORGE page? you can find a link on the group mainpage) with you and me both being admins. Hopefully we can turn out some pretty sweet stuff as well as trade a few secrets. Keep on building ~ Nowhereman

I'll get the Quad done with my huge Bricklink order, and aside from that, thanks for the invite! more conversation can be carried on there, If you want. I've seen the original FORGE page, and I thought it was a great idea with the 'old' MOCpages. However, the new group thing is better. And, the main pic for FORGE's page is one of my favorite Izzo mechs, if not my absolute favorite. As for the time thing-- I'm on West Coast time, so it makes sense it'd be off for you!

Oh, you changed your name...
I meant a Quad as in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes-- It seems like you've played the games, so if you're wondering these are enemies encountered in Sanctuary Fortress.
Your WIP is out of date, though, so I've no name suggestions.
I'm soon to post a racer mech and a fighter, so...yeah...

Try white and blue (more white, less blue) for the idea. I'm trying to make some "refiniments" on the l-Frame. Perhaps shall add white with orange?

That's what I'm doing. I'm just using the blue as some details and Cross designs. After all, it is the Revelation mecha. However, it's just a test mecha for me to work on color scheme.

MY ROFLCOPTERS!!!!

You know what was really random: Some kid in my class who was sitting in our group just randomly announced that he hated getting random boners at school. Then he went on saying how in one of his other classes, he randomly popped a boner as the teacher had the class stand up. LOL!
