You didn't invite me.. :) Ok. So, who will explain for me (a newbe) - what exactly people do in car olympics? How this whole thing runs?? How many and how quickly you have to build cars and are there any restrictions or groundrules what the car should be??

Whoops! Sorry. This question will be answered in the Q&A topic

So??? The answer is??

We're still organizing the games, but the categories are almost done. We're planning to run it similar to the MOColympics. I don't know much myself scince A.J. is running the whole thing. I can email him so we can get this organized, and have it redy before October at the latest. I'll try to handle the brackets so everyone has an equal match. But this is a warning to EVERYONE: If you are not sure you can join, please wait untill you know you can or can't. We don't want ANY dropouts being unfair to others who wanted to play. You will be given an acception if your computer suddenly encounters a virus or any other of the sort, but if you were planning a vacation or event that you knew was going to happen could result in banning you in next years olympics. So check before you think you can join. I'll be making a chatroom for the contest too, so you can get your smack in or talk about other things concerning the games.

Hmmm... looks serious. If it realy will be THAT organized as it seems for now, I would like to be in. However - there is some questions left unanswered - how quick car builder you have to be?? How many cars you will be suposed to build?? How long the whole game lasts?? And - what's the most importat to me - do they have to be built in real life or cars built by PC also counts??

Good questions :) Well, speed is no problem for the contest. You can set a date to build with your opponent if your limited (you can set the build time to 15 days max) you don't have to make a huge scale car. I'm not sure how many cars you need to build, scince we haven't gotten the brackets and rounds organized (it depends on how many people join). The games should last all fall, and possibly some time into the winter.
Oooh... real bricks and pc... we haven't exactly figured it out yet. We could have 2 groups for LDD builders and real builders, so there will be a winner for both. And some more info: We're gonna try to get some professionals to judge like Firas, Dan, Patrick and many others.

LOL thanks! I'll have you set up the categories

Just got the picture ready :) The categories are about set, and I'm getting the chatroom ready as we speak.
The Underground Garage will be sponsoring this. I'll supply all the pictures and brackets.

Well - I AM huge scale builder, hence - 15 days... if I copy somthing from my other cars.... otherwise... not so sure

Quoting

Hence other thought, you could divide groups into two subgroups, depending on size (explaned in topic "Categories") and then set the deadline differently: max +10 days for small cars and max +20 days for big cars

Emmmm.. let's just say "PC builders" 'couse I hate LDD But I think there is no reason to divide this way. It's pritty much the same - you have to dig throu the stuff to find that one appropriate piece. Ok, it's more oredered, but hey - who denies you to order your real stuff?? huh??

I agree, the sub-categories for big and small groups sounds great :)
I'll expand the build days for the large scale builders.
To explain the pc builders (I like that term :) ) and real builders: It wouldn't be fair to mix both, because pc builders have an unlimited amount of bricks at thier disposal. Some real builders are limited on bicks, and might not be able to make quite as good a car.
It's also harder to make a high quality car on LDD, so the real builders have an advantage. It would be unfair to exclude some people because they build a different way, so it's easier to make 2 groups for each.
Were gonna try to make some other awards for things like: Detail, Color, Interesting techniques, functions (optional when bulding), Engine, and much more.

Okay. Like the small-scale LDD people face off, until there's only 1 left. Same for small-scale regular bricks, large-scale regular bricks, and large-scale LDD. Then the best large-scale regular bricker faces the winning large-scale LDDer. Same for small scale. The winners of those two rounds face each other, to determine who the best car builder is! Also, each round, or layer of competition, is given the same category, but each match-up has a different model car within that category. Sound good?

Well, before we get the entire contest started, we need to set up the brackets. The caregories are pretty much set, but we're still working on the current sub-groups. LDD and real bricks will be seperated, as well as large and small scale.
This will be a multi round contest, so yes they must be new cars. We'll accept a maximum of 150 members, in order for the brackets to work.

sounds great. should be fun. maybe you should have a challenge that builds normal, everyday cars. Would be neat to see what people come up with.

Hey everyone, thanks for the invite. Is this a contest where we have to build something new or is it a sort of "Awards Show" for the best current cars on MP? Thanks.

Ok, thanks. I'll et to work on them and when car olympics is done i will post them then mail them out, i also think that the judges culf use a small one for helping out.
ps can i be a moderator?

Also, what if you've already made a creation that goes with the category? Like if there was a contest that I was in that was for a Veyron, what would I do (I've already made 3)? I know that we have to enter new mocs, would we have to make a new design? Also, if Dan is using mocs that he has alredy made, how does that apply to time limits and the 'only new' law. Can that really be fair to the rest of us? I know he's moving, but maybe he can just be a judge. I don't want to kick him out, he's a great builder, I just want it to be fair for the rest of us.

Dan is gonna be a judge actually. He can't get to any legos scince he's in Scotland. So the same rules apply to the rest of you.

Hey Joel and or AJ, what happens if you don't enter your creation on time? Right now their are only two entered creations: my BMW and Henry's Buick. Are they disqualified, do you give them extra time, do they become a judge, and what happens to the apponent?

The categories are based on type of the car, not size. For instance, I have category "1900 - 1950". So I have to build a car from those times in any scale/size. It can be 10-wide, 4-wide 40-wide... whatever-wide...
