Question: Would we judges have to read the whole thing?
Question: Is there anyone in the COP dedicated enough to write that much besides us? Permalink | November 29, 2009, 5:13 pm |

I would be, but I'll be going on vacation in December. That means away from my computer. :(
Plus, NaNo was a bit of a shock for me. I might need some time to recover... ;) Permalink | November 29, 2009, 5:17 pm |

50K in about 41 days is just a little more than 1K a day. 1K could be done within an hour or so, so I find it a rather respectable requirement. Permalink | November 29, 2009, 11:22 pm |

It's 1.2K a day, roughly.
Well, about 1,216 words per day, actually.

5K can be done in a day!? I do agree that is possible, but is also suicidal.
50K is just plain stupid, no offense Phaze; you're probably a hardcore writer who churns out the pages.
But for a contest, thats over-the-top to say the least, we must remember that its all about quality, not quantity. I could write a 5000 word essay that beats someone who did a 8000 word essay just because of the way I write it! (That did actually happen last month!)

Exactly. I consider the Allies the bad guys during WWI. If the Germans won that war, then WWII wouldn't have happened and nobody would have heard of Atom Bombs.
Just as somebody else would say the germans are the bad guys, when writing war stories I try to keep it kind of neutral, both sides have faults, no side is truly good, or truly evil. To keep it neutral it helps if the main character is not allied to any of the two (or more) waring factions, take Awesome-o-saurus' POAM as a good example. Permalink | December 3, 2009, 6:13 pm |

So could someone answer my questions?
I'm sure you don't have to make them appear as the good guys, the POV could be on the UNE side, just to get a bit of variation; instead of everyone dribbling 's0 i kiled da UNe wif mah mashine gunn and we won da wor!'
I agree that we should drop it atleast down to 25K, its all about Quanlity, not quantity! Permalink | December 3, 2009, 6:50 pm |

Then again, we're also the ones who consider their people to be everyone in the Coalition, regardless of species or location, and have the people working for the good of the people alone.

We're either, both, and none. I need to bring my Early Gmail Quote:
In the 'bad guy's' eyes, the self-proclaimed good guy is the bad guy, and just as well, the self-proclaimed good guy's eyes, the 'bad guy' is, well, bad. Now, that being said, the bad guy usually has (or thinks he has) a reason for his actions, a justifiable reason. It's another's choice to discern it from good or bad.
It's all about portrayal, my good man.

But, after all, this is me we're talking about.
Yet, Phaze managed to pull it off too, for the most part.
And Sammy is quite far ahead, despite not being on the level of writing prestige Phaze and I are one (no hurt meant, Sammy).
You see... Well, you know what time it is? It's Awe Story Time! You see, when I first started on my 50K story, I thought I'd never make it. But, through merely keeping up with the word count of 1667 words a day, I did it. This word count is at 1200 or something. You people can do it, you only lack the confidence.

Look doodz. 1.5K is easy! You just close Firefox/Safari/Internet Explorer(BOO)/Google Chrome/Other and open up Word. Just type, and once you have just a little idea, it's really easy to get a ton of words. You get 100 or so in a few minutes, then a few more hundreds, you find yourself at 1.5K. It's not as hard as it sounds. Permalink | December 3, 2009, 7:04 pm |

That's what I want when writing characters. No one's really 'bad', just either misguided or have characteristics to be shown as bad. I think the term 'epic fail' is appropriate here. Perhaps you should up the dead line so all the whiners will acualy try, while only rewarding those who have already started.
Well, you said it!

Yeah, when you're not paying attention to how many words you have, 1K could take 20-30 minutes.

Look, don't stretch it. You're story will be as long as you feel it will be. If you try to stretch it, then the story will just be boring. One of the stories I am writing was only going to be about three pages, yet I'm up to twelve pages and I'm not halfway done yet.
Big, long stories will come as you get more experienced as a writer. Until then, practice smaller stuff.
I have gotten much experience with short stories. I've already written two ten page fictions in the Mass Effect and DooM universes, as well as dreaming up a Borderlands story, Assassin's Creed story, and historical fiction about why Ceaser was actualy killed. I'm more then rehearced at keeping things fresh, exciting, and creative. Permalink | December 11, 2009, 12:45 am |

Now,judging your opinions from that context, it's seeming as if you are saying that the two can't mesh together when one is a novice at writing.
That's complete Bull, honestly.
I've been writing for about a month, and already I've got ideas pouring over, for one book.
ONE.
BOOK.
Not trying to assert upon the others a feeling of dimishment, but it's as I would find suitable to say, if I could do it, anyone can, it just takes determination which I know we all have.
And with that, I'm off to think of more ideas. Permalink | December 11, 2009, 9:28 pm |

idk. i just thought it would be cool. the whole point is a warbot who used to be just that, a war machine. but then an explosion causes him memory loss. the comic is about him recovering old memory data... and uncovering something shocking in the process. cool, huh? I'm using notebook paper for Shattered Skies and can fit about 200-230 words per page. For Dead Man Running (production name, new one coming soon) I use Open Office on my Ubuntu boot and it fits with what you're saying, but considering how the website scales to actual novel pages and not 8 1/2" by 11" pages, I think we should use that scale.
