Alrighty I know I always start my posts off with, "oh wow its been a while or something" but not today. Today you all get to learn how to say this factionss name right.

I've seen A LOT of COP and not enough coalition yes thats right you can say something like, "my COALITION moc looks good". You dont always have to use the capitalised COP to refer to our group. Remember C.O.P. is the abbreviated form of coalition of planets. See try fitting that into all the places you normally use COP, it doesnt work does it. Now try coalition, much better.

I hope to see some diverity now.

Okay.

But, is 200 miles too big of a ship for the coalition?

That's pretty much too big for any ship, unless it's an artificial planet. Which is too big for us.

Try something reasonable like two miles.

Sockpuppet: either an alternate account used to back up arguements, or an easily manipulated person being used as a "me, too" for arguements.

I'm leaning towards the former, myself.

Eh, CPS Hooded Cobra was fourty-four times that long.

CPS Armageddon is supposed to be bigger, a real mahogana of a ship.

Eh, that's YOUR ship, so you can't realy make an argument based off of that. 2 miles long is still a beastly ship (WAY bigger then those puny little U.N.E. ships), I'd say the Coalition's biggest of the big are 4 miles MAX. And you'd need a helluva' lotta funds to build a ship that big. A ship on your scale would put the entire Coalition out of cash, plus try finding a way to get that thing moving faster then a slug without overheating itself until it cooks the entire crew alive.

Two words: Wormhole. Generators. Also, there's engines located all around the hull. Just put up the wormhole, move steadily along towards the opening, and ZIP! You can then steer your ship through the wormhole as time is slowed, then turn off the generator to exit the wormhole.

Try pulling that manuver in the heat of battle. You'd be up to your ears in flak. On top of that, wormhole generators are EXTREMLY dangerous. Think ripping a hole in the very fabric of time sounds safe? I think not. And even when time IS slow, you still have to chug your way through the wormhole.

Quoting Master of Epicness And before you start on the power ordeal, let me just say that this beast is a ship EATER! That's right.... no ship is safe once the GIGANTIC claws latch onto it! Then, once it's brought into the mouth, it gets laser'd, MAC'd, MPR'd, crunched, sliced, and salvaged. The generators are used to refuel the ship, and the rest is used to help better armor the ship.

If your are scaling the ship down to 2 miles, then most U.N.E. ships could just fire up the engines and rip those claws right off, and that's practicly asking to get pummeled by endless rounds at CQC, and thats even if you can get close enough; with a ship that frakkin' slow it'd be like a turtle chasing a rabit.

Quoting Master of Epicness Two miles sounds okay, I'm going with that, thanks for the suggestions. (And yes, Phaze, I'm going to greeb it up when I'm done.)

I agree with Sammy. Ripping holes through time and space isn't safe. Warpspace rifts are only safe after 10,000 years of perfection, and a further 30,000 more of practice.

And claws that eat ships? Once that enemy ship is in the maw, then off go the 50 megaton nukes, and you're radioactive toast. A nuke in space, espescially the kind of nukes that would be used in space (directed energy ones), would be like hitting a sheet of aluminium with a sledge hammer. A really heavy sledge hammer going really fast. That's several million degrees hot.

At least you're scaling it down. 100 miles is impossibly unrealistic, 44 miles is still unrealistic, 2 miles is logical.

You ignored my statement. Unless Ian says so, I'm putting ships like the Fortress of Silence at about 6 miles long. Those are our oldest and best, naturally, they are the biggest. 5 miles is plenty big. You ever walked 5 miles? It's a lot of ground to cover.

Eh, okay.

But I'm still doing 10 miles. That, or, 7.

What part of 10 miles is to big do you not understand? 10 miles: Impossible. 7 miles: Possible, but impossible/ nearly impossible to move, 6 miles: Possible, but you'll need to have a helluva' lot of light grey, as in, a $300 PaB order I hope to muster up lot.

Orly?

The reason why I had that claw thing is because in the origional backstory, this was supposed to be a MASSIVE mining ship with mechanical claws so that less power could be used to power a tractor beam. The design was sold to the Coalition to be used as a single supership, a unique ship, one that would be so huge, so mighty, and so technical that only one could be made. That's the definition of a supership.

But, I fail again.

We don't have tractor beams... the only way those could work would be via giant magnets, and with that everything metal would just fly at us. And in the Coalition (happy now Ian?) a supership is a ship that's just frakkin' bigger and better then anything else, without being impracticle. If you want to sum up the Coalition in one word, it's realism.

What's the biggest ship that the coalition can make?

And, since I've had several designs for it, I'm combining them int one. 5 MACs, point defenses, greebles all around, hidden bridge, and, my personal fave, a huge, solid battering ram!

I'd say 6 would be the biggest. But at that, you'll need funding (The kind of funding only people fourth in line or higher to be Emperor can get), materials, a LOAD of energy, ect. So I'd say 5 miles is your possibility. And using standard Coalition scale, that would be about 30-40 studs long. Maybe even a bit bigger.

So...

Is a solid battering ram realistic? Or should I just replace it with a MAC?

Battering ram is fairly realistic, as long as it isn't used to much, and it better be made of a pretty dense metal, and be pretty thick as well.
