Pirates and Earth ships hitting our borders should be taken care of before expand.
We should eradicate all known close threats before we search for new habitable areas and risk ecountering new ones.

I, as the leader of one of the outlying sectors, say that we should eradicate all known threats before we search for new habitable areas and risk ecountering new ones.

your no fun...

you see there is a stalemate going on currently between the to alliances, a slight drawback of let's say 20% would not hurt the coalition, we can expand in any direction, and currently the coalition is not moving, more progress would be made if we moved with only some of our troops into to new unexplored area.

Forward I say! We have a massive fleet, you might even call it a super massive fleet, we can handle any enemies we might face.

Let's take a history lesson from Awe the Teacher and Unofficial Canonizer of the COP.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/thenotsogreat/3955009724/

We've got the UNE at the "bottom" of this map, contained within a few hundred light years. The thousands between us and them we ignore, as we can come back later to it. We haven't surveyed this area for resources in 28,000 years, so we might need to do that again. Beyond the UNE is a mystery to us.

At the "top" of the map we have more unsettled frontier space, that's up where Thyrenda, Owyhee, NC-2345A or whatever, and other events/places of POAM happen. Beyond that we have planets we knew were once in the Coalition, before the big disaster of the Beacon network, but they didn't want to join the Emperor. We retook mostly everything up to Thyrenda by force, but after that, the Re-unification lost momentum and slowly ground to a halt, as we slowly faced more organized resistance.

These people use the same technology as us, or at least, they once did. That means if we're gonna go up there, we're gonna be potentially facing Great Crusades era tech, i.e. our own best weaponry. Maybe they've degenerated into barbarian hordes, as we know some have, but our best bet is the space beyond the UNE. That should be our next target after Earth, or we can take it now to attempt to englobe Earth. Remember kids, space is 3D and frakking huge.

Just a note: it's impossible to accurately represent space factions on a 2d map.

The closest you can get is a rough 'area of influence' on a 2d galaxy map that shows where their society can effectively influence other people's colonies. Whether through trade or being too close to a combat starbase.

Pretty much. And yes, if I had a 3D program I'd make a 3D map, but I don't. That's a problem, and it's my problem. This little computer probably couldn't hand it any way, it's a year and a half old, almost a generation out of date, computer wise.

Mine's worse.

You know that Republic Commando game?
It can't even run that.
It can't even run the Silent Storm demo, that's from 2002!
Even the laptop, which is more powerful in every way, can only run those two games on the lowest settings.

Not my copy you wouldn't. It came with a big crack in the disk and works maybe 30% of the time I put it into the laptop.

Why yes, I do mind checking your commandos out. Just because I like a game doesn't mean I like 1337 sh@rp!3d cl0n3s based on it.

You need to find a picture of a galaxy and mark out borders, the COP will be split into two territories Tyrendi (however spelt) having half while the tarsis humans have the other half, UNE having a large territory somewhat smaller than the COP the rolloxians have a medium size territory in one of the arms in COP space, the draconian have a suitable sized territory, ask some fellow MOCERS if they want their species on the list and if you want make up some species and give them territories, we nearly forgot RACOP give them a territory in the middle of COP/UNE space border

Ooh, cultural influences, I like it. I can take this the one step overboard as I usually do and make a cultural sphere of influence map across the whole galaxy, if need be.

Also, does anyone have a 3D model of the galaxy?

I've aways imagined that the COP (at least high class civvies) dress in medieval/1950s clothes. Weird, right?

Furthermore, I imagine Tarsis to look a lot like Manhattan, except the buildings go on for thousands of feet down, while most of the cool people chill up in the top 1000 feet, and the deeper levels are totally shut off.

And even furthermore, I imagine that the COP has massive cultural differences between people, like Rome. On Tarsis you'd have the all righteous and reserved Thyrendi, really old Khaal's aliens, the humans who go about their business, the Digondarians who don't do much but shake their fists at things, then your standard internet cafe types sipping cofee, talking about Earth and how many people have died today, then some soldier telling them to Es Tee Eff U and if they want to experience the war, they can go enlist...

That's actually the intro to a theoretical stop motion I'll probably never make, about daily life on Tarsis.

No, the whole planet isn't urbanized. Only a great deal of the land. Tarsis is mostly water, I'd think. And the oceans are highly polluted. Because Tarsis, like Earth might, used up all it's resources long ago, and had to turn outwards for stuff. Like in that movie Avatar. Except Tarsis wasn't weak like the RDA, and didn't hesitate to pwn some natives.

And yes, most Thyrendi, especially ground-dwelling Thyrendi, are highly conservative. From what I've made up of their race, either Thyrendi women are rarely seen outside the house, or the Thyrendi have only one gender. I haven't decided. But to them, the Emperor is only a very divine person, Thyr (God/Star) still outranks him. You can find "new age", "modern", "post-modern", and everything else Thyrendi living abroad in the COP or in the orbital shipyards and moons.

Considering how Earth has had about 70 years to colonize... I think the current territory allotted to the UNE is too big. It takes time to start a colony up, and you're not exactly gonna go 20,000 light years to settle a planet when you can settle one 20 light years away.

Don't forget, space is big. And the COP have had 40,000 years to get stuff done. Earth has had 70.

True but you don't have to necessarily colonize every single planet to "own" it. I was thinking along the lines of sectioning some of the huge UNE territory to like Unexplored regions, because Space is huge.
