Until you get the technology for monomolecular cutting edges, a chainsword is the next best bet.
Of course, you need either a very strong soldier or a powered exoskeleton to use them in combat, but the exoskeleton is a good idea anyway..

Since I have no idea what I was thinking when I tried to get it declared canon, I have to agree with you.
'Specially since it only represents a small star cluster.
