Phipson's Fall Thread
 Group admin
Well... Summer's come and gone... Don't worry, I sat in the corner crying softly to myself for a bit and I'm all good now. Never been a fan of cold weather myself (he said while typing from the Chicago area) so it's always sad to me when I have to break out the sweater for the first time in a season...

But enough of my griping, this thread is all about you guys and what I can do for you!

As you know, the MocOlympics are in full swing so that WILL be taking up most of my time. However, don't let that get in the way! I'll always make time to get over here and dole out any advice that I can... just might not be in the most timely manner...

Ok, so whatcha got? Any advice I can give on the hobby or mocpages I'm glad to help where I can!

~Chris.

Could I get the number for your psychologist?

At first when I saw the thread I thought it said "Phipson's Fail Thread". LOL.

Well, since you saw "fail" in that, what does it tell us about your state of mind... and chances in the MOs? (Oh, should that have been in the smack thread?)

And you don't want my psychologist's number... he started planning his retirement after one session with me.

"How can any one person be THAT messed up and still function in society?" he kept asking. I think he's going to write a book on me and make millions. It'll be titled "Never Sniff Your Burning ABS."

Sorry I could not respond immediately, but I appreciate your advice. I've changed my background from the window by my bed, to a blank wall by my desk. Thanks very much.

I'm doing ok, thanks for asking. I have this pain in my foot and leg that... oh, you wanted advice on the moc, my bad.

Ok, here's what I think. First and foremost... it's awesome. It has this old school Robotech type feel to it that brings to mind images of squads of these things in some battle in space with maglock boots to stick to hulls of ships and... but I get ahead of myself.

The only real "problem" (and keep in mind I'm REALLY stretching here to try to give you some constructive feedback, which is what you guys come here for) that I see is that the color choices, at this scale, make it look a little "busy." Like you have to strain a bit to pick out details. Maybe it's the studs showing in a few places or maybe the stand for it that's throwing me off... not sure.

I'm about... %100 positive that this looks better in person than in photos. The pics I think don't do the actual creation the justice it deserves.

Again keep in mind, I was stretching WAAAY out there to find something to give you advice on. Really nice little mech you have there! Thanks for sharing!

Do you have any suggestions on how I could've got a higher score on this? http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/340434 It got a good score, but still could've been better. (And don't you dare suggest anything involving more dark tan parts, cause I don't have more. If you do, I'll make a moc where your siggy gets killed in a horrible way!)

First, I would have added more dark tan slopes to the... oh wait, my bad.

Seriously... ok, here we go.

The head, first off, was excellent! Very expressive. Nice work there.

The tail is the biggest point in my opinion. The way the slopes make a "zig zag" pattern just doesn't read as organic enough for your build. I know you don't have the parts but putting reverse slopes on the other side of the tail to even it out would have made a BIG difference.

The body and legs aren't bad at all, but I think maybe smoothing out those studs a bit would have helped a bit... not much mind you because it IS a dog... and dogs can be scruffy, but it might have been better to lean towards a studless look given the amount of studless slope work, just to give it a sense of uniformity.

Over all it was a really nice moc so don't be too hard on yourself about the score, you did well!

I know that this is off-topic, but do you know where can I get a hold of one of Greg Hyland's AFOLS #1 comic book? Any ideas?

Hello - could you take a look at this when you get a chance? I'm new at this - not sure if you review this kind of thing. Thanks

I want to know how to get more likes on this:http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/343991 I've been on MOCpages now for roughly a year (my first MOCaversary is coming up! XD) but None of my creations have even hit 15 likes. I LOVE building, but a little bit of recognition is nice.

One question, what does the permalink button do?

So, this:http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/345757 is a new mecha I've just built. I'm a wee bit (a ton actually) uncomfortable building a manned mecha, especially in real life. Criticism is very much appreciated, but keep in mind that I have very few pieces and have to take apart all my MOCs before I can build a new one.

Sorry that this group has taken a back seat to the Olympics... but hey, it does every year right?

Anyway, next week once the Olympics (and Christmas) are over, we'll get this stuff back up and running with a Winter thread.

Thanks for your patience everyone and Merry Christmas!

Not much. Supposedly it gives you a link that'll take you straight to the selected post, but it never quite worked right.

Hi, Mr.Phipson. I was wondering, how could I get past a serious case of the builders block?

It does exactly that and it works perfectly.
