Alas, I fear I'm not the best guy to answer that. Since I usualy take pics at night, it's usually just me, a white cardboard, and The Flash.
Better ask Kelso in MOCpages Advice.

My style is take it where there is a lot of natural light. Apparently a plain background is good also. As for taking the images, try to keep a steady hand and the flash off. That's about all I have to offer.

Use a bright table light and photograph without natural,
or use flash, sometimes natural light is tricky and the pictures get darker than you think.
Finally, you can improve the brightness a little on your computer, too.

ok so things i use to take good pictures are an auto focus camera white light and if you dont have a tripod use both hand on the camera single handed photos dont look good if possible take photographs on overcast or cloudy days thats all i have to offer in the ways of photography also if you have nothing to prop your camera up with plase your elbows on a flat surface or on the table/platform/thing the moc is sitting on

Thanks, I don't have a tripod but I use my CDs instead. The overcast days thing really helps. :)

You're right, but with artifical light, you images can have a yellowish tint that makes it look like you've slobbered on them. And flash can expose too much detail. Natural light is best because when done right, you can produce photos in the best light.

I use two desk lamps with daylight bulbs... they work quite well... well judge for yourself by looking at my MOCs ('cept my latest, i just used the usual lighting in my sitting for that one). I diffuse the light by placing a sheet of tracing paper in front of the bulbs, so you don't get lots of glare and over exposure. (Doesn't all this count as answering in Yuri's stead...?)

Hey, Yuri, have you got any advice on how to cover the piston on back of my Toa Hyvara? http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/161789
Thank you very much.

Actually I had the same problem with my old Alphatron Knight and Daimajin, and with my Indra too. I solved it only recently but still didn't post it.
The best solution is covering it with a foot or a shield mounted on a ball joint so it can follow the piston's movements. Sorry if I can't explain it better.

Can you give me tips for the frame of a semi-big Bionicle?

Well, I will assume you're talking about a humanoid bionicle, not a beast/insect/whatever.
The 1st thing is to check your color supply and decide the theme for the guy. If you don't have enough of something, don't stretch it, in that case settle for a smaller build.
Then it's a good idea to give bigger bionicles more poseabilty, because the "blocky" stance hard to notice in small toas pops painfully out when building over 10" guys.
You can do that by connecting torso and hips with a ball joint and then add a piston on the back, or use 2 short ball joint connectors.(easier, but it won't flex sideways)
It's a good idea to widen the shoulders, too. And if you ever bought a Titan you already know how to give your guy longer legs.
Check out the MOCs from more experienced buiders to fill in the gaps, and don't be afraid to experiment.
Here http://www.mocpages.com/folder.php/44530 you'll find some of the easiest basic techniques.

Have fun :)

hey yuri, you're good at making titans. how do you get that filled-out look without making the body too heavy for the joints to support?

It depends.
In case of a simple titan, you just need pistond in the right places. For bigger guys you need to put multiple joints in place (but try to keep in mind what kind of movements you want that part to perform otherwise you'll end up having a biig bionicle sculpture).
For gigantic stuff, although I'm still experimenting, I try to use both. But I was still unsatisfied with Grond's shoulder joints.

I know your feeling. I don't like to build SP, I only did it because it was required for the olympics.
Since I only made that one, I have no general advice to give you, just look around at what other good bulders did.

Another tricky question, Yuri. Right now I'm MOCing Death (Discworld) for a story I'm writing, but I can't decide on a skull design that would look more like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnaQXJmpwM4

I'm deciding between two things right now - a white Pakari with blue eyes, or just a white Mata/Metru head with blue eyes. Suggestions?

Well, with contests you never know... my latest was half a fiasco (but with some AWESOME entries).
I guess te success of a contest lies in how much spare time the people you invited have :)
Of course, you should try to invite people who know you and who might be interested in the theme...

It's a Knights Kingdom head. They're cool, but quite bothersome because the visor only attaches to KK heads, and there's a face painted there. I covered it with 2 dark red stickers from some old set (the only stickers I EVER used on a LEGO piece).

An accent color is used for details. Let's say you're building a Toa and you want to make it red and blue, but you want the armor to "pop up". So you build the basic frame in red and blue, and use a metallic color for the armor. That is an accent color.

Toas come out cool when they have 2 to 4 colors, but the more there are the more difficult it is to get the right balance.

I don't keep them up too long, especially during summer.
To accomodate a loose joint get a permanent marker of the same color and paint the inside of the connector.

Whats the best way to get your creations out there. I have a lot of good creations but im not really getting them out there.

The key is PRESENTATION.
I have some of my older stuff that is way better than all I could come up with recently, but they're all under rated because of the poor photos and thin description.
Use a clean background, make sure you have good lighting and work on your description (a correct use of the english language and a bit of humour work miracles).
Then, you just need to be active in groups and leave comments around. Just don't beg for comments.

You can try adding a very low regular light, or you can try to shoot on a white BG (the reflecting light will light up the ret of the MOC a bit) or you can adjust your camera's shutter speed manually (use a stand for the camera!). Or a combination of those. I still didn't find the perfect way to do it and it takes many shots to get a decent one.

O WISE ONE!!! A moment of your time:

Two important questions:

1) How do I take photographs of REALLY big MOCs? I've started work on some much bigger projects (A giant vig, a Life-sized weapon, and some Titans), and was just wanting some tips on how to effectively capture them for MOCpages.

2)What's a good system for organizing pieces? I've never been the most organized, and half the fun in Legos is shoveling through the tons of bricks to find the one that fits (^u^). But two things have come up; parents *rolls eyes* and there's the fact that I almost never got doubles of the same set. I usually got one of them and used what was in it, meaning I have some unique elements that I can't find all the time. Masks, for instance.

The most I've done on the subject is invest in a few tackle boxes, like for fishing, and I've put my Minifigs and some smaller pieces in there. Then I've got some (barely) pieces sorted into smaller bins by shape and color (mostly shape). However, most of my Lego collection is spread across two tables and a bed...and it's running out of space...Any suggestions?

(Real awesome of you to make a place like this. This'll really help some newer MOCers. I never knew it existed, but now... :3)

Though a good way seems to be stepping back and zooming in.

I don't usually keep stuff up after posting, because my collection is not that big, so those MOCs have been gone for years now.
Lately though, I've been keeping something here and there, since I have more pieces.
The things that I currently have that look the most like the MOCs you liked are Ratika

and Demon Antroz

They are revamps of the same original Bionicle characters, and as such, you can easily make your own versions. The masks and the marbled pieces are quite cheap on Bricklink.

Everything you see on that page (and most of my pages) is very easy to build and recreate. I used to have little cousins, and now I have little nephews, who must be able to play with my stuff.
So everything must be simple in order to be sturdy and secure.

You are right. The hoppers and Thinmen are simple, cool, and fun! Not to mention EASY to replicate. I am planning on making a revamp of Tar kuma, which i will give credit. The few things that amaze me are:
The designs, i especially love Antrex, Trika, Skrallest and Tar'kuma. But the coolness, heaven bless you. I am 11 almost 12, so if i had them i would like to play with them. I have a distant cousin who lives in Italy. He says it's awesome. He's an adult though, you might know him. I doubt it though. Maybe we can chat on my wiki sometime :P

I would not have guessed your age. You write way better than other kids you see online.
I'd suggest you post some of your MOCs, so your comments won't have to go through moderation every time (MOCpages treats newcomers as "suspicious" until they post lego stuff. Since there's a lot of kids around, I agree).
I doubt I know you cousin, but for a quick chat it's easier to find me on Facebook, since this is my actual name.
