Most Missed Characters
Join to comment
there were plenty of characters that didnt make their way into the movies, which did you miss the most? for me, it would be Glorfindel, who's place was taken by Arwen in the Fellowship of the Ring to give her more importance. as I recall, she had no direct influence on the plot of the novels and it's always annoyed me how much they shoe-horned her into the movies. i realize they wanted to highlight her relationship with Aragorn, but still... anyways, how about you guys?

Well:

they should have put tom bombidil in the movies. :( he was like the coolest- not involved charecter.

Tom Bombadil is probably the most missed character that never did get into the motion picture trilogy. I know I was disappointed when he never made his appearance, and I really wish he had been in the extended edition film, if not the original.

I know you won't like this, but I didn't mind that really that much. I mean - if the actress that played as Arwen hadn't been very good at acting or really 'un-beautiful' I might have been annoyed. But Liv Tyler is pretty darn hot and a brilliant actress. So I don't really mind. :)

Yes, I think to eliminate Tom from the movie was the biggest mistake, they made! He didnīt appear neither in the comics nor in the cartoon movie, but he had a nice part in the old Pc game ` The Fellowship of the Ring` ! Thatīs so coooool, isnīt it?

Bombadil was another missed character, but I can understand why he was removed. he is an extremely interesting character, but only serves the over-all plot by getting the Hobbits out of a few tough spots. that and I'm sure his inclusion would've wreaked havoc on the running time of the movie.

Apparently, the love story between Aragorn and Arwen, although it didn't really play a very big role in the book, was made a big thing in the movie because it mimics the ballad between the elf and the man, (dang, I forgot their names, :P) And J.R.R. Tolkien wrote that song for his wife, so they kinda' wanted to honor that, or something like that.

The characters I miss most are Glorfinel, Elladan, Elrohir, Halbarad, Erkenbrand, Tom Bombadil, Goldberry, Lindir, (Nimrodel and Amroth if you count that even their mention is left out), Imrahil, Quickbeam, and the list goes on and on...

I missed Gloin's part in Rivendell. (You can see him in a short scene standing right behind Gimli though, as some of you will know. I wonder why he wasn't in Elrond's council though.)

I also miss the adventures in the Old Forest and the Barrow-Downs.
