Hooray! The only sad part is that it might cut down on the number of sets and minifigs made, being as there may be collectible minifigs.

Yeah, great news! :D Some guy over on Eurobricks even came up with some set names and numbers (to be released in June) - apparently a few fans have actually seen these sets already, although the rest of us will have to wait until Feb 2012. Anyway, here are the set details he listed:

9469 Gandalf Arrives
9470 Shelob Attacks
9471 Uruk-hai Army
9472 Attack on Weathertop
9473 The Mines of Moria
9474 The Battle of Helm's Deep
9476 The Orc Forge

Make of that what you will! ;)

I am not surprised at all, actually. I'm just glad to see that i was right. ;P There was this on-going bet I had with someone over on another LEGO site, and I just knew I was right! I've had this bet for about two years...

I know. Thank you, again! Thanks to you 'The Fellowship of the Brick' knew it a long time before it was official.

I was just a little afraid that none of you guys actually believed that I was right, but now... I'm proven right. ;)

Also, Michael: I'd suggest to change the main page photograph to the new Frodo poster photo, as it would look better than what we currently have. Here: http://www.techdigest.tv/lego-frodo-thumb.jpg ;)

I was thinking about that, too. Perhaps we should add it to the homepage and then see, how everyone likes it. Or we could wait for mor LOTR images and then choose the best or simply keep the old one.

What does everyone think?

It is said that this theme will be multi-year running; so that would mean lots of possibilities for sets. What do you guys believe will come out? (Not particularly what you /want/ to come out, but what you /believe/ will come out in stores.) I'm thinking battle packs, perhaps?

Battle packs for sure and maybe some new beasts like the fell beast. They may have a hobbit hole and maybe Edoras. I doubt they will have that many big things like Helms Deep and Minas Tirith or if they do itll be very expensive.

I think it would be cool if they made wargs and they would come in the scene during The Two Towers when the Rohan people are attacked on their way to Helms Deep

They might make the Gates of Moria, with some special building techniques (and perhaps even light effects) I think the possibility is very big that they will make the Balrog or an other interesting creature, because many people would like to see that.

There are hundreds of Star Wars sets out and people can buy a fair chunk of them each year without going poor. So as long as it's not 100 sets each year we should be fine.

What I mean by this is that I won't be making my own minifigures for my MOCs (like I already have previously done with The Fellowship and Gollum, etc.); but I will still try to make my own towers and such with the minigures that LEGO provides, as there are plenty of more towers to go by than there are characters.

Now I understand your point of view. It's a little bit sad, though. But nice to hear that we will still see some more creations from you! :)

(this is aidan)
Legolas- Cape, and get rid of the lines on his face.
Aragorn- GREAT! Just needs a cape.
Gandalf- The mustache doesn't look right, and the staff is boring, but good
Boromir-I do not like the face, and he should have dark red arms, and black instead of dark blue.
Gimli-Like, like, like! The beard is a little narrow, but besides that, great.
Sam- His hair is too long, besides that, maybe a little happier.
Frodo- Great!
Merry- Good, although the hair is kinda poofy.
Pippin- happier.

I am SOOOOO excited for these to come out!

I agree. They should be dark blue instead of light blue.

This is what I think:

Gandalf: The beard should be better and the staff doesn't really look much like the original one. The face and the torso aren't bad, though. 5/10

Aragorn: Wonderful! I like the beard and the hair. 8/10

Boromir: The torso is OK, but the blue color is by far too bright. Also there should be yellow points on his arms and the haircolor is too dark, too. The face has too many lines in it (same with Legolas and Aragorn) 4/10

Legolas: Not bad! The green torso and the hair are perfect. The only thing I don't like are those lines in his face. 9/10

Gimli: One of the best LEGO LOTR characters! The helmet is really great! 9/10

Frodo: Can't be better! 10/10

Sam: He's great! The face should be friendlier though. 8/10

Merry: Excellent. 9/10

Pippin: I don't like that weird smile in his face, but other than that OK! 9/10

Gandalf: I love everything except the beard is a little odd, and the staff is boring: 8/10

Aragorn: I love everything except the lines on the face, needs a cape: 9/10

Legolas: I love absolutely everything except the lines oh is face, needs a cape: 9/10

Frodo: I do not like the lines on his face under his eyes but he is great besides: 9/10

Sam: I do not like the face, it should be happier and I think the hair should be darker: 7/10

Boromir: The blue is too bright, the hair is too dark, and his expression is cranky, he should also have more red: 3/10

Pippin: I do not love the hair and I do not love the face's squiggle: 8/10

Merry: I love him: 10/10

I can see all the other pictures, now! The Fellowship looks much better than on the first official poster and even Boromir doesn't look as bad as expected. Gandalf's head should be blueish grey and The Moria Orc and Mordor orc shouldn't have the same heads and hairpieces, but everything else is OK. (Or at least, I really hope so, since it's my
new favorite theme ever since it was confirmed..)

We've got sets from
'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' coming up
next January (December if we're lucky), then there could be another wave in summer 2013,
with either just LOTR sets, or a mix of
The Hobbit (AUJ) and LOTR. Wave 4 features
sets from 'The Hobbit: There and Back Again'.

Then, there's to hope that it will continue
even after that...

Yeah, I think there will be 2-4 waves. The great thing is that the new Fellowship figs are REALLY dissapointing, so there will be lots of room for improvement. I mean, Aragorn, and Sam are nothing like the movie. So there is lots of room to still create. Hopefully the sets will be better than the figs, but that they will leave some holes so we can still be creative. My guess is they'll come out with the second wave January 1st, just like they did with wave 2 of Harry Potter. And they'll probably be medium and medium-small sets; just like Harry Potter wave 2: Knight Bus, Hogwarts [small], The Forbidden Forest. I hope they do a small, 10$ Gollum's Cave.

Aragorn is mostly OK, its just the face that I question. Boromir is my least favorite too, but I didn't know how that would go over so I didn't mention it. It is mainly the hair and face I don't like for Sam. They could've spent more time on Gandalf, and Legolas's hair is a little straighter than I would have expected, but my main point is that there is room for improvement. I was thinking LEGO might do so good a job (like they did on Pirates of the Caribbean) that we might not have anythign to build as MOCers. But they have left some stuff for us to do. That was all I was trying to say.

Well... The POTC minifigures aren't that amazing, I think. Jack Sparrow's face could need work.

Other than that I totally agree! Gandalf's hat is not grey but blueish grey and the staff should be a completely new design.

The most annoying aspect is the flesh lines on their heads. I guess they wanted to let them look realistic, but that made them even worse.

Yes! I agree as well. Gandalf is missing some important elements.

Despite Jack Sparrows face, the POTC Characters were really accurate. I wish they would have put the same amount of time and detail into these figs. I mean, giving all the hobbits the same hair? Yes they are similar but I just can't stand Sam with that hair...

On another note, the sets don't look fantastic either - the Helm's Deep looks pretty patchwork. I might re-do it after the set comes out.

I agree with that to some extent too! Although in regards to the sets, the confidential pictures aren't the most trustworthy/accurate source. The pictures don't even display the actual LOTR mini-figs within the sets. But who knows, you may well be right. Lego seems to be on a steady decline of: "less pieces for more money."

Don't worry about the Helm's Deep set. The main reason why it looks weird is that the wall on the left side isn't long enough and that the only pictures we've seen are blurry or from the prototype version. I heard that the set 'Uruk-Hai Army' is an extention wall for Helm's Deep.

I wouldn't expect it to be any more than the prices of recent Star Wars or Harry Potter licensed sets. In the global view of things, more kids will have heard of those 2 than LOTR (even though it is superior), so the licenses would have cost more, so the sets would have cost more. You get the drift.

Anyway, they look awesome! I'm really looking forward to these sets. Helms Deep looks great, and will look better with a few Uruk-Hai Armies attached to it. Well, the wall that comes with that set, not actual armies of Uruks! Altohugh I intent to have a fair amount of those on it as well!

I agree. The Haldir minifig is cool! And at least the designs are not too perfect, so that I can still combine them with my own designs (besides that I prefer yellow, so I will definitely change them for my MOCs). The only minifigs I won't change are the normal orcs and Uruks.

Haha, yeah. At least the main characters Gandalf and Frodo are in the least expensive set.

LEGO Was REALLY weird to do that! I mean, put Gandalf in the Mines of Moria ONLY would be better. The Mines of Moria should have a Balrog and there should be an extension of the bridge of Khazad-Dum, like Helm's Deep and Uruk-Hai attack.

Lego did this because they wanted people to buy more sets, that's why the whole fellowship isn't in one set.

Well, they did put Legolas in the Mines of Moria ONLY, which is a brilliant move on their part, considering how wildly popular the collectible minifig elf was. I hope they do the bridge, too - maybe that will come in a later wave.

The 1x2 bricks that are textured to look like bricks are interesting. While I think they will be cool for some builds I think that using snot to make bricks looks cooler.
As for gollum, he could use some work, mostly his face. There is just something off about it.
How they made the ring is ingenious, though.

I find it some reason odd that LEGO is just now remodeling the horse piece - now it just looks different - kind of like how the dog piece was changed, but this is a more larger matter. LEGO's designs have seem to be changing even more drastically, most recently. Do any of you find it strange too?

I worried about the horse-thing, too. Yes, of course, they are nice, but it would be sad if they replaced the classic horse design. Besides that I like the old dog piece better. It's simple, but less special - you can use it as any dog or wolf, not only as a sheepherd like the new one. I also think that some of the new designs of the licensed products need some work.

In a way it is nice that they aren't amazing because now lotr fans like us can buy the sets and use their pieces to build something way better. With that said, I hope that they make the hobbit sets better quality. I think it would be really cool if they made a set of bag end.

The design of all the sets, in my opinion, is not bad at all, especially Helms Deep. All in all, it is a very large set, about just as big as the new Kingdoms set that is the same size. I think that all the sets are better designed than, say, the PotC sets.

In the movie, which is what they are referring to, Denethor is a little crazy. He did not do everything he could for his people, he yelled at them "Abandon your posts!" and he refused to light the beacons, and then he burned himself alive.

I don't like Legolas' face, but i do like Boromir. LEGO needed a peach elf hair so i guess this works, i hope it fits over a quiver. That is the most important for me. Gandalf's beard is waaaay to much like the Ninjago sensei, wispy, it needs to be the original beard, the face is a little iffy as well.

I agree. They should remove those lines in their faces.

This is what I think

Good:
- The Uruk-Hai and Rohirrim are really good
- Eomer
- Theoden's armor and helmet
- the Hobbits
- the torsos

Bad:
- The swords should be more accurate
- Gandalf's staff
- the faces and the flesh lines on them
- Gollum's eyes are too big
- Boromir is the worst of them all
- The Cave Troll should be grey not blue

All in all I'm glad that they aren't perfect. One more reason to edit them or create your own minifigures.

my opinion

Bad- most of the minifigs. don't like the hobbit hair, most of the faces, most of the torsos, gandalf's staff and beard. not enough capes. the rohirrim I didn't even recognise. especially Eomer, Eowyn, and Theoden.

that is practically everything

good- little legs are abundant!!!! yay! also some little capes! legolas's hair. the orcs. the troll. the nazgul.

the sum up- I will be using my own minifigs.

I probably won't buy any sets.

but there ARE some cool pieces.

For the sets, I say good. Some of them are overpriced, but they are really good sets. I looked at the new pics, and I realized that they are really good.

I'm honestly impressed, especially because of how TLG had failed in a lot of other ways.

True words, haha!

As for the sets I say they are great!

- 'Helm's Deep' can't be better or more detailed. It's also good that you can combine it with the wall from the set 'Uruk-Hai Army'.

- The Uruk-Hai Army is a nice set and not to overpriced.

- Shelob's lair is great as well. The playibility is 5/5!

- 'Gandalf arrives' is the smallest set and one of the best: It includes two main characters, a horse and costs less than 20$/!

- 'The Mines of Moria' isn't bad at all and nicely detailed. There is even a Balin-skelleton inside the tomb!

- 'The Orc Forge' is the worst set, I think. The build is OK, but it is not in the least interesting, nor there are any important characters in it (except from Lurtz)

- The Weathertop is one of the best builds. It's cool that you can look what's inside, not too expensive and the minifigs are a good combination as well.

I think what makes his eyes appear to be wider opened is the pupil size. They weren't so roundish like that in the films, nor were they ever that bright. But LEGO likes the cartoony style, which I understand. To me, it looks just enough like Gollum as it should. ;)

Oh, well, there's no problem with that. Even LEGO isn't content with their finished products, as we often times see redesigns. :P

You have a point.

I may, in the future, rebuild all the structures to better fit the actual architecture; surely taking what LEGO has provided, but just majorly adding to that. :) The Helm's Deep would be an interesting re-build... but Gondor is what I'll probably do! I like the Return of the King battles far more, for some reason.. even in the books, too.

Gondor's a interesting idea for a build!

I wish they had a cheaper set that comes with Pippin... They should have the door to Moria with Aragorn, Merry, and Pippin, Since M and P woke up the guardian. Otherwise, if I get any with my own money, it'll most likely be the uruk hai army and maybe shelob attacks, and Gandalf arrives.

Iron man's cool, i noticed he has the suit from the second movie in this set, as opposed to the Quinjet, Hawkeye could be better but he has great parts, Loki's helmet is more of a rubbery plastic, his green cape would be cool for LOTR charecters, and his staff has cool parts. overall minifig rating., 8 or 9 out of 10

The Target website also has them in stock now (at regular price), including the exclusive "Orc Forge" set. I'm personally waiting until they're in LEGO stores, because we just had one open here yesterday! But if you don't have a LEGO store in your area, you might check your other usual LEGO sellers - they may have them now!

A Toys-R-Us in my area (Kansas City) has the LotR sets in stock now (though they're marked up a bit)!

Wow, thanks for sharing!

Well, I'd love to have any of them. Though, my least preferable would have to be 9476 The Orc Forge. (And this is LEGO Lord, by the way. I thought it would be necessary to change.)

Orc forge wouldn't be bad in my opinion. I know you won't believe it, but my least favorite has to be helms deep. I don't know why, but I'd not think its that cool. It's a nice castle and all, but they need way more minifigs. Also, I have figured out that for every 100 pieces, it should be around $10. Now look at the weathertop set. It is way overpriced.

The 2 sets I find not worth getting are the Orc forge and Weather Top. The Orc forge just isn't worth it to me because all it has are orcs in it, it doesn't even have Saruman. I am not getting Weather-Top because of its price, the only reason I would want it is for Merry anyway, so I'll just get him on Bricklink.

Why is merry with frodo in the weather top set? It should be all four hobbits together. But I can see they want more money if you want the whole fellowship.

Quite frankly I think it is overpriced not to have all four hobbits.

Yes, Weathertop is overpriced.

Over priced? Well, in all technically, everything LEGO produces is highly overpriced. They make a profit of at least 20x or more of what it takes to make the pieces, transfer them to boxes, etc. The sets are distributed from place to place, raising the cost each time, and once reaching the stores, it hits an extremely high price.

Well said.

Shelob's attack is 26.99 which is as much as 35.13$, while in the US it is 19.99$, which is 14.80. I think that's really unfair.

They wanted to spread the Fellowship throughout the wave of sets, that way, they'll make a higher profit out of it. Even if some people prefer it differently most will still buy it anyways. They're masterminds at business.

They are really tricky! If I were them I would do it the same way.

Many hours, but the costs for the journey + the LOTR sets would be nothing in comparision to what I have to pay here for the sets or any other bigger business.

That's cool! In August I don't have any school, so that would be perfect. The only problem (besides my parents' permission) would be the travelling plans. And if I'm not allowed to go there, would you like to visit me in Germany? I'm sure we would be willing to host you as well.

I would love to, but we are very busy this summer. (I was waiting to tell you this as a surprise) But I am probably coming to Germany in the summer of 2013, we have friends, whose friends live there and so they said I would probably be able to go and stay there for a few weeks, I do not know where in Germany it is but that would be a good chance to see each other as well.

But if we wanted to meet this year you would have to come to this country :) if you came in the winter it would be fun to have you and though we are busy I would think we could have you. And if you wanted to come in August you would have to come later in the month, that is when we are least busy. If you timed it right in August you would actually be here when Jackson is here too and you could meet him as well!

Either way I'm sure we could have you over and if you get permission we should try and get you here to the states this year.
