Finally, I found information! It's Dáin II Ironfoot, whose father died in battle in Azanulbizar dale. He also killed Azog then, so that orc couldn't possibly hunt Thorin's company.

My father died an honorable death at the battle of Moria, and I avenged him. I only survived because of a certain object, and now that object is part of my name. (I know it's easy I just wanted to start it back up)

I think you're referring to the movie. Though even in the movie Thrain didn't die at the battle of Moria, it was Thror, Thorin's grandfather.
