Time for a new General Conversation. The last one was, welllll, long. You know it's time for a new one when it takes forever to scroll down to the bottom of the page. P.S. Michael gave me permission.

I saw photos of Orlando being held back from Bieber, so my guess is that he punched him and they tussled. There have been a lot of memes on Facebook about it..... Some of them go overboard though :|

Two more chapters until I finish the Silmarillion! :D

It's funny how the Denethor in this book dies the same way as Denethor in the Third age :)

But I have a few questions (Spoiler Alert? :P ) - 1. Near the beginning, when they chain Morgoth, they say he isn't going to be released until three ages have passed, but he gets let out sooner. It's confusing to read, namely because there are so many names that I can't keep up with and spmetes they switch between first and last names, so I might have read it wrong, but I don't recall any reason for him to be let out any sooner... :1 was there one?

2. How in the world would Turin not be able to recognize his sister when he married her? (Neianor or Niniar, or something like that. I forget how it's spelled. :2 )I mean, I get she didnt recognize him because of the memory charm thing, but why couldn't he tell it was her? He did see her before he left Marwen (I thinks that's her name- I'm rubbish at remembering names- though I remember what happens :P ) or was she born afterwards? Cause I think she was alive before he left...

3. I was going to ask was beren an elf but I remember he's a man, because Luthiens dad was angry that he would go into the city, and then ask for his daughters hand. It's kind of cool how he is Elronds grandfather!

So the book is pretty cool, but Im Soo glad it's got the appendix of names in the back or else I'd be lost xD

Oh, And did anyone else think that some o the parts are written as though it's MEANT to be a movie? (Or TV show... :3 ) they're written so perfectly I can imagine the scenes in my head :)

Also, Eol made Middle Earth (or, Arda) very much like Alsan made Narnia, which was kind of cool. (Or I suppose it's vice versa...which can first, Narnia or middle earth?)

Phew, a long time passed since I read the Silmarillion the last time. I don't think that I'm wrong, but please correct me if I am.

1. It's a bit confusing, but 3 ages doesn't mean three Middle-Earth ages in this case, but 300 years. Also he was able to change his appearance, so that he looked friendly. I think he begged for mercy several times and that's why they gave him back his freedom.

2. Nienor was born after Turin left his mother, so he had never seen her until she was a young woman

3. Yes, Beren is a man. I think it's interesting how they are all related to each other. Also Celeborn is the son of Thingol's brother Elmo. (Thingol is Luthien's father.)

I was wondering if you could like combine them with just Thomas B. Also on the MOTM list if you could change that to Thomas B. also that'd be great :)

I was wondering if you could like combine them with just Thomas B. Also on the MOTM list if you could change that to Thomas B. also that'd be great :)

No rush, just if you have some free time I'd appreciate it :)

I'd be happy to fix that. Thanks for telling us.

Hello everyone. I never bothrered to really watch The Desolation of Smaug, but finally did when I visited some relatives. All I can say is it was a huge disappointment to me. I felt that most of the movie was exaggerated, such as when Thorin jumped from chain to chain to get the statue thing to spew the gold or whatever out. I also really disliked how they made Beorn look in his human form. I don't recall Beorn being described with eyebrows that touched his human hair mane, and mutton chops that did the same. Don't even get me started on the barrel scene. While watching this movie I had a constant sense that Jackson almost turned it into a comedy drama. My least favorite part about it was Smaug. I know some of you might disagree, but I felt that he was overdone. I always pictured him as a bright red, slender-like creature, not a huge muscular reddish-brown monster. And where in the name of Iluvatar did the statue come from? I just don't get it. I know that the actors and producers poured their hearts out into this movie, but I personally did not like it.

Yes! Finally someone who agrees with me (or I with them)! I agree with you on all points except the look of the dragon, though the intelligence of said dragon is very low. Never frying any of the dwarves when he had the chance!

Wow, that's a really big car. I wish I had more space in my car, you can't really put much in it. To answer your question smart cars aren't that popular in Germany, but it seems like they become more popular with every year. Well at least I see them on the streets every day. Also the smart car is the first car I ever drove without a clutch. In Germany cars with clutch are still very popular while in the US they have many automatic vehicles.

Honduras was the same way, almost every vehicle was a stick-shift. I still haven't learned how to drive a stick-shift car but most newer vehicles are automatic anyway.

You never had to drive a stick-shift? Lucky you! I had to do my diring test with a stick-shift. I advise you never to drive one if you have a choice. I think automatic vehicles are an improvement, you don't have to switch between the different speed gears every 5 seconds and press down the coupling at the same time and the car won't turn off or make problems if you accidentally switch to the wrong level. :D Also you can react much faster.

Well, driving a shift-stick is not too difficult, but with atomatics you can focus on the traffic much better and less problems can happen. Just my opinion. :D

That was something I was afraid of too but my seat is fairly low so it's easy to stay balanced. I've only fallen over one time and that was because I didn't let off the clutch slow enough and I lost balanced when the engine stopped. It was in someone's yard though so I didn't have to worry about traffic or anything.

I disagree. Learning on a stick was hard, but once you know what you are doing it's really quite easy. The car I learned on was a stick, and I even had the choice between the two for my test and I picked the stick over the automatic. Plus, it is much easier to save gas money if you drive a stick because it is easy to put it in neutral for small amounts of time if you want to.

According to studies, The average American has 2.3 children. Now how someone has .3 children I don't know XD but anyway, as for the "why, I don't know." I can enlighten you a little.

1) Most homeschoolers are Christian.
It is a common christian belief that it is wrong to abort, as well as wrong to control birth. Because of this, the family ends up having a lot of kids.

B) Most people who homeschool came from large families.
This is not always the case, but usually if a mother wants to homeschool it is partly because she was homeschooled. The same reason applies to why she would want a big family.

III) Catholics, and Mormons both preach against birth control/abortion.
Similar to #1, these faiths teach it is wrong to do either of those things, thus resulting in more children.

The short of it is it usually comes down to a moral code from the parents. Sadly the world teaches that 1 kid is more than sufficient, 2 is plenty, and 3 is over the top. Let alone 4-20. The liberal/atheistic messages and goals underlying these are not something I will discuss on MOCpages. (Last time this stuff was talked about it kind of blew up all over mocpages, starting with the TFOL club) for information from this, I have a group I am happy to discuss my claims, beliefs, etc. with anyone who would like to discuss it in a professional and respectful manner.

It's certainly not easy, but we make it work. If you ever end up getting to the U.S. you can come meet all of us.

A big key is that the oldest (which would be yours truly, and Matthew) help out a lot with all of the others.

well since we are all talking about homeschooling and large families. I would like to say that I am homeschooled and I come from a fairly large family. I am in a rather unique position since I am the youngest of 6 the oldest of which is 20 years older than me. 3 of my siblings are married and I have 3 nieces and 8 nephews. the oldest of which is 4 years my younger. On top of all that my sister and here husband and children live with me. here children are the oldest of my nieces nephews. so I get the unique position of one: acting like an adult or kid which ever and I feel inclined.(although that's not nearly as possible as it used to be a couple of years back) two Having the sibling experience without them actuly being my siblings (believe me that gets frustrating at times but there are up sides too) Three having 2 sets of parents around. Indeed an interesting situation. I am not entirely sure why I am telling you all this but I thought you guys might find it interesting and I thought you guys might like to get to know me a bit. God has really put me in an fascinating position. By the way I am 17 if anyone wants to know.

Indeed a very fascinating and interesting situation. I only know things like that from my grandmother. Her mother was the oldest of 9 siblings (one of them died as a baby) and gave birth when she was 18, so she's less than ten years younger than some of her uncles and aunts. My grandmother also gave birth when she was 18, so 5 of her aunts and uncles are still alive today. The oldest is 96 and the youngest 78 and my grandmother has got at least 50 cousins.

I also know a guy who has got two sons, one of them is 8 the other one 30.

Well, I remember you. :P
Nothing much... Walked around in a corn maze for 2ish hours today though, so that was fun.

How about for the 2000 vignettes we make a thread and the first comment would have all the titles the numbers and who made the vignette. This would make it easier for new comers to see how far it has progressed. And 5 or so people could edit it ever once and awhile or when ever they feel like.

Yes that's what I mean.

But what about all the people who want to add new entries? If there is only 1 big comment, how would you count them?

I have an idea for something. Now all I have to do is get input from David on how to execute my plan. :-)

My first input is to post comments where they belong. :P
