Play well

Welcome to my MOC pages, where I show off my LEGO creations.

I was born in 1971 and I live in Hungary. I work as a systems administrator. I am married - we have two sons and one daughter. As a kid, my favorite toys were LEGO bricks and matchbox cars. I still have my childhood collection in shoe boxes. My LEGO collection was very small, even with the sets and bricks I blackmailed out from my younger siblings. We had some 20 sets altogether, most of them were small sets in the Town theme. I treasured my few Castle and Space sets. Looking back, I realize now that I enjoyed building more than playing with my creations. If I was building something, I usually stopped when it was finished and did not play with it much. As an adult, I always had some interest in LEGO toys. My wife and I purchased several DUPLO sets for our kids, and played together with the kids. One day I decided that our older son was already old enough to receive my childhood collection of bricks, so I got them out of the box. They were pretty dirty, so I went to clean them. I also noticed several parts were badly damaged, so I realized I had to replace those parts before I could build my old sets. First I made a list of which sets I had by browsing through the on-line scanned LEGO catalogs from the era of my LEGO-days. (1979?-1985?) While I was hunting for information on the Internet, I realized there existed a whole scene of LEGO enthusiasts: web pages, clubs, events, etc. I wished Hungary had been part of all this but I found no Hungarian LEGO club. I was hooked on LEGO (once again), but initially I was only a collector. A I was hunting for replacement parts for my incomplete sets, I found a couple of vendors who "operate" at the Budapest flea-market(s). Occasionally, I've seen sets from my childhood I did not have, and could not resist buying them. These sets were seldom complete, so I always had a reason to go back for more replacement parts. You can't imagine how much time and money I spent on this. But gradually, I felt more and more inclined to build my own LEGO creations. I had a few logistical problems with this: as I was not going to use the sets from my collection, I still had virtually no brick to use for building. Also, I realized I did not really have any building skills, not at least in comparison with the best builders. But I could not just run away from the challenge, I decided I had to work on the issue. I pretty much stopped buying any more sets, and begun amassing a collection of LEGO parts. I usually build in the Town genre, because I am a member of a small LEGO Train Club. You can never have enough buildings and vehicles on a Train layout.
