Thousands of years after humans first travelled to the stars, the known planets entered a dark age. Earth was lost to history - it's location forgotten; the only trace left in the scattered ruins of its empire.
Now, the planets are united by the Confederacy; all but a string of small settlements in the Aegean Nebula, these remain free. Two regional factions of the Confederacy are on the verge of civil war, and the free planets lay between them.
The leading free planet, the Argolis, has long been a central hub of trade throughout the known planets. The planet is a unique artefact of Earth's history - an artificial construct of floating settlements, some rock and others old ship hulls.
On the eve of war, a senator and general of Argo discovers another ruined outpost of Earth, an ancient library. Among the documents recovered, a map with the location of Earth. When war breaks, the general's fleet is caught behind enemy lines, and Argo is besieged. With nowhere else to go, the general journeys to Earth, in the hopes of finding out what caused the fall of the old empire.
