Variations On A Different Theme
100K GET!
About this creation
First, a little background: Thereís a theme called Variations on a Theme, usually shortened to VOAT, which involves the use of a Blacktron II-style bubble cockpit. However, not everyone has the pieces to make that cockpit, so there was talk about inventing a second bubble cockpit design that could also be considered a type of VOAT in order to make the theme more accessible to everyone. I came up with this design and decided to call it VOADT, for Variations On A Different Theme. This is a quick little spaceship that I made to demonstrate the design (although now that I think about it, it probably would have been a better idea to make more than one MOC with it and post them all at once). Go here to see the basic construction of a VOADT cockpit minus the actual windscreen pieces:

Please feel free to build your own, and check out the VOAT Consortium for more information about the rules for building VOATs, VOADTs, and Mysterions:

Sorry, but I can't seem to make this a link.

Hereís a good shot of the VOADT bubble canopy.

Side view.

Rear view.

Top view.

The VOADT cockpit can even be modified to accommodate two minifigs. The last two pictures in the Brickshelf gallery are of this version. Here's the URL again:

Side view of the two-person cockpit. The minifigs barely fit, but itís not too uncomfortable.

This time with different windscreens. Now go build a VOADT! I would be happy to see this theme become as successful as the original VOAT was, not to mention the Mysterions.

That cockpit design is really excellent, I think I have to steal it from you in some future MOC o'mine... Great ship as well!

Reminds me of the BTII Fighter, in a good way. Very elegant and clever design ! IMO, I prefer the one with TIE windows :-)

Quoting Shannon Ocean I like the studs on the front so one can add bricks there or not.
Yeah, I was just thinking some trans-clear 1x1 cheese slopes would look good there.

Ah that's the ticket. Nice design Nate; I like the studs on the front so one can add bricks there or not. I don't have these canopies yet but I'll be sure to get soon as soon as I can!

YES! This looks surprisingly good, it'll definitely be accessible to a lot more people now. Thanks for coming up with a new design! I have the parts now so I'll try it out!

Very nice ship Nate! Compact, yet it really has character. Well built. (Oh, and 100K? That's just what I was going for too :))

Now I get it!! I couldn't really picture it from the link you posted in the Consortium a while ago.. But now that there actually is one, it makes MUCH more sense! Nice one!
