Y-Wing Advanced
A Star Wars MOC inspired by the Rebel Y-Wing starfighter
About this creation

Back in spring 2005 I bought the "Star Wars" Incredible Cross-Sections" book and was inspired to build this model. I imagined what the next generation Y-Wing might look like. The engines were recycled from the Republic Interceptor MOC I made in winter 2004/05.

A rear view offering a look at the engine exhaust grid (blue) and the hyperdrive (dark gray greebles in the center fuselage). I stayed with the trans blue 1 x 2 tiles used on the Republic Interceptor's engines. The first mock up I made included long struts on the back of the engines with thrust diverters, like the original Y-Wing. However, to me it didn't improve the "modernized" look I was going for.

This head on view highlights the roomy cockpit the pilot enjoys. Note the topside ion cannon aft of the cockpit, like the original Y-Wing.

A low angle view of the front. Note the twin laser cannon (dark gray cones) under the forward lights. One either side of the laser cannon are the launch tubes for the proton torpedoes.

A low angle view from behind showing the rear shield projector (dark gray greebles in center fuselage).

The Y-Wing Advanced is a multi-role spaceframe. Here is a recon variant featuring a long range sensor dish (topside) and aft sensor array.

Here is a heavy assault variant with extra weaponry mounted on the underwing pylons. This configuration features a pair of outboard long range laser cannons and 6 proton torpedo tubes.

The canopy "slides" forward to open. After an hour of trying out different part configurations, I could not come up with a hinged opening canopy design that didn't mess with the overall design. So I fudged it.

Love the thrusters of the wings and the very unique and sleek shaping! The color scheme just matches perfectly and looks adorned, despite that this is a war vehicle! Keep on Brickin'!

What a unique shape! I like how since the Empire is defeaed, the Rebels can gain some more funds to fix and improve their old rust buckets. At least, that's what I get out of this.

I like inventive design. Yours is perfect from front to rear. The shape and technical features are exhilarating. You can be proud of it! You may take a look at my Tripike-fighter, witch is a mix of fighters including the y-wing ( spec. as escort-fighter).

It's far sleeker and modern looking than the original Y-Wing. Your Y-Wing advanced would not look out of place in one of the prequel movies with its sleek look and different colour scheme. Cool MOC!

I gave it a five because of the execution of the model. Although I do have some reservations about the engines, they seem a little out of proportion with the rest of the ship. Neveretheless another fine creation.
