The Black Box is version 3.0.0 of my pc-projects. This one has the bulkiness of an old Xbox and the clean lines of a PS. I chose to let the DVD-rom stick out to break the symmetry and make it less boxy. The studless plates are actually used to hold the plates together, but I think I will extend them to the rest of the case to give it a more distinct look.
The dimensions are:
58 studs long, 36 studs wide, 17 studs tall (16 visible).
As you can see from this picture, the Black Box can be placed both flat and upright on the table. The rear features three swinging doors to hide the connectors when the case is on display. The grey 3x2 brick is actually the power button, below which lies a Technic shock absorber to keep the wires separate.
Here you can see the slots in operating mode. When open, the fans inside suck air from every open slot between the inside structure and the PSU fans push the hot air out the back. The missing link between the previous design and the current version is a flexible PCI-e connector, allowing the graphics accelerator to be placed flat on the motherboard.
Here is a picture of the keyboard. of course it had to match the case, but the colors are still from the old design, and will be updated to match the new case. I've used mini keyboard with built-in mouse and buttons for this.
Here is some of the components used:
Gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2L nForce630a
Athlon 64 X2 4600+
OCZ DDR2 2GB 4-4-4-15
WDC 80GB SATA
Nvidia 8600GTX with Zalman Cu cooler
Samsung DVD SN-S082H Slim
Chiefted 500W PSU
The building process and the previous version can be seen here and here.
Cool, I'm hosting a lego wii contest, and I was wondering if you would like to join, If you could create something as unique as this, I think you could win, the contest is here at http://mocpages.com/moc.php/167874
