Modification of Hoang Phong's Paper Wasp Gun
I was cruising MOCpages when I ran into Hoang Phong's paper wasp gun. Intrigued, I built it and made some modifications. I must say I'm pleased with how it came out and I would recommend that anyone else that sees this try building it, too.
About this creation
I'd like to suggest that you check out Hoang Phong's Paper Wasp Gun and the Double Barreled Version. He has instructions and pics of the original mechanism that are useful.

In this pic you can see that aside from fleshing out the gun's structure out a little bit I've made some modifications to the gun.

Hoang Phong's gun had a rather small grip, I made it longer and had it flare out at the bottom to help grip it better, I have big hands to this mod was a must.

Notice the big wheel? I disliked using my left hand to crank back the locking mechanism so I added the wheel. Now to reset the gun you just pull the trigger and roll the wheel back with your thumb. This allows you to hook the paper wasp onto the rubberband and pull back with your left hand while cocking with your right for faster reloading.

I haven't really changed this side of the gun, but you can see the changes I made to the trigger and rubberband that pulls it forwards, the original design would have worn out my crappy rubberbands too quickly.

Not much to see here, except that I placed a 2x8 plate (black) in the barrel to make it more sturdy. I might as well mention here that I elongated the barrel by four studs because my rubberband was weak so now I get better range and accuracy.

One problem that really bothered me about the original was that the barrel was a little weak and pulling back the rubberband caused the sides of the barrel to pull together. So I added a piece (circled) to the front of the barrel that would help hold it while not changing the shape of the barrel and making it misfire.

Here you can see how much I lengthened the handle and widened it to give more to hold onto. I'm sorry about the terrible quality of the pictures, but the camera was acting up.

Anyways, that's my experimentation with the paper wasp gun, next I'll experiment with the double-barreled version.

Neither did mine, but it seemed like you would have to squeeze the parts back together after a few firings so that it wouldn't come apart. I'm almost obsessive-compulsive about reinforcing things, I hate it for things to break. Regarding the double barreled version, I'm having some difficulty, but I'll get it to work eventually. ;)

Cool. But just for the record, my gun's barrel never collapsed. I have no idea why, but it didn't. Good luck with the double-barreled version!
