Estuary Stronghold: Build Journal #3
About this creation
Two months underway. I've got to say that this is the most interesting project I've undertaken so far.

Month 1: Lower Base
Month 2: Upper Base <-- you are here
Month 3: Outside Walls
Month 4: Castle Buildings
Month 5: Town Buildings
Month 6: Landscaping and Details

Above I've built a make-shift tower. The purpose of this is to make sure that I build the rocks in the right place. Its important to get the dimensions right the first time because rework for something like that is really frustrating.

Of note, palm tree on left is updated for the coconuts. You put a lime in a ....

Look who caught a fish! This little building here will eventually be mostly covered up, so I wanted to get a shot of it before a wall covers it. Kind of a waste of pieces, but the original build had it, so I put it here also.

This ones for Garth. For those wondering, yes I have a couple engineering degrees. No I dont use a slide rule.

Ok, onto the waterfall... This took a bit more time than I was hoping. As I mentioned last episode, the lighting would be a challenge. So to make this work I took a couple steps. First is a layer of trans and then blue behind the waterfall, which is brighter than just rocks. Next is using smaller water streams rather than a big bulky one. That way, more of the transclear behind the falls would show up. And finally, I added a tunnel from the side. the next photos show a bit more of this.

I'm a big fan of those ducks from the market set, so much that I made 12 of them. I've added a few color schemes, the white one shown here.

See you next month. With any luck at all, the outside walls will be ready. Same bat time, same bat channel.

I've been utilizing multicolored Technic bricks in the support structure of large MOCs for years. Does that qualify me for any kind of honorary degree?

Well, it seems to be coming under way nicely. I don't have an engineering degree, but I know my brother is going to be graduating an architect. Good day

I like the ducks too. I was curious about supports and that's a great pic. I'm surprised you put in so little support. I'm startin to think I over support. Bases I build I can stand on. Mind you sometimes I want to transport it. I would guess you're putting something on paper before you start. I have started sketching out dimensions and covering the sketches with notes. Too hard to keep everything in your head when it's so complex. see ya. garth

What have we here? Another fabulous castle creation from Professor? It's too good to be true! Excellent job, I love how the waterfall/cave turned out. The Tower looks amazing as well. I can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for March! -Tom

AWESOME! I wish I had that many pieces. I could easily build something like that but it would be every color of the rainbow and It would be 100% blocky and studful. (sigh) One day I'll catch up to you, one day. . . PCE OUT!!
