After a month the moat has been dug and flooded with water from the nearby river. More stone has been delivered and a temporary bridge has been erected providing access into the future castle area.
Work on the wall starts on the cliff face and the foundations are dug out. Work on the keep has been the main focus and the dungeon area (underground) and basement have been completed.
As the walls raise up scaffold is needed and the carpets cut up the timbers which is then taken to the keep.
The scaffold is erected. Meanwhile Theodus and Caspus discuss the work on the keep.
Work on the walls moves on nicely. Meanwhile the site is visited by Jubba the Hut (kindly transported there by my oldest child who now has taken residence in the cave under the castle!)
As the work on the walls follows along the moat and foundations to the gate house are laid, more scaffold is erected, more stone brought to site. So what does a king do during all this work?
He sits down with his son’s and lord’s and has a banquet amongst all the construction work. (You would never be able to do that today on site!)
The ground floor has been built on the gate house and the portcullis has been dropped into place. With the drawbridge built the temporary bridge is removed and the walls completed. The site is now a bit more protected.
