The Typhoon was the pride of the British Royal Navy Escort Fleet. Durable, strong and sturdy, a pair were a cheap alternative to a corvette in protecting rimward convoys. Years passed and the ship fell out of favour, used models began to leak onto the black market.
It turned out pirates and convoy raiders liked it even more than the Royal Navy. Held in high regard for the sheer beating it can take and give out, the gunship soon became a cult favourite.
A good weapon to use against capital ships and fighters of a similar size, the Typhoon is undone by small groups of interceptors and other such snubfighters. Sending one into battle without dedicated fighter support would be foolish, at best.
The view underneath shows the warhead launcher and mine laying mechanism.
(I based the idea vaguely off the Tempest-class British Heavy Fighter from the ever-excellent Starlancer, although colours are obviously changed here.)
