About this creation
The Real Life Adventures of SigOcean Figgy - Part ?? - In the Canadian Rockies

So Mr. Young sent me the coveted fig, and now I have finally got around to posting my contribution to his continued adventures. Now this sun loving fig finds himself in the Northern Canadian Rockies, where the temp drops to -32C. However, he has been kept safe and warm in my pocket (don't mind that hole in the pocket buddy).

Interestingly, the first thing we did was drive South 300km to Banff and stayed at the Rimrock Hotel for a medical conference. Here are some pics from my hotel room on the top floor.

Then we did some touristy things - chocolate shop (some of the best fudge I have ever tasted, and we watched some of it being made).

Then an iced soy latte from that ever-present coffee shop.

Off to dinner, start with some red.

Oops, a little too much, and we have been cut off.

A little bacon wrapped elk for dinner - very nice.

Me holding the two little guys.

One of the desert displays for the conference dinner: it was an amazing feast. Foods were presented from several different cultures. I ate so much butter chicken and curried lamb that I thought I was going to burst, then came dessert.

Back North to Hinton - this is the view from my bedroom window.

Down to the Lego room:
Ocean: "Come on, it won't hurt to ask."
Jones: "I don't know buddy"

Ocean: "Ruuuun!"
Jones: says to himself, "Who the heck asks an army of dwarves if they are interested in being tossed!"

Here you can see our two heroes hiding from the dwarves in their +2 magic cloaks of invisibility.

Ocean: "You know I have seen these things used for some shady purposes."
Jones: "I know, I know; however, I thought it was a great idea for weighing orders, rather than counting all the dang pieces. At any rate, you are looking a bit chubby - told you you shouldn't of had that eighth desert in Banff."

Here are some shots of my collection and sorting: Overview

Close up of the main sorted parts

Drawer sample 01: tiles

Drawer sample 02: round pieces

Drawer sample 03: 1XN bricks

Drawer sample 04: 1XN tiles

Drawer sample 05: hanging out in the bush

I lost track of the little guy for a bit, and when I tracked him down he was trying on some alternate clothing. Not exactly sure if it was his style or not, but Ocean certainly seemed comfortable.

However, once he gave me that come hither look I figured it was time to bail.

Here is the new evil horde: the two drawers labeled "1" are the original collection, all the other drawers labeled "2" and the drawers between the two labeled "2" on the left are the expanded army waiting to be assembled.

Ocean: "This is a trick I learned from a buddy in New Zealand. He said that all you have to do is push them up to a cliff and they will push right back at you. Never have to worry about them trying to run away. Do you have any sheep shaggin' boot kickin' around?"
Jones: "..."

Ocean: "What exactly is the point of this picture?"

Jones: "Just to tick off Mr. Young. You see Mr. Ocean, Mr. Young is not exactly the biggest S.W. Lego fan in the world."

BTW: Hey Phipson, want to come and help me sort this stuff?

Despite thoughts to the contrary, I try to sell Ocean to this young lady as a member of the group ZZ Top.

Jones: "He really is a star baby; no, not me, I am just his manager. And you know beautiful, there is only one thing that's longer than his beard if you care to find out for yourself."

Jones: "Hmmmm, maybe I should try that one myself. That one might work to get me into the ladies' drawers."

Ocean: "Oh, man! Please, please, please let me dive in."
Jones: "After you man, after you."

Ocean: "Unnnggg, maybe the back-flop wasn't such a good idea"
Jones: "Hindsight is always 20/20, and to be honest - I always wanted to do it too. Now let's see if we can track down that dang doctor, cause I think I broke my coccyx"

Jones: "Well Ocean, it was nice to have you here for a visit, a shame that it wasn't for real - I could have used some guidance on that racer I have been working on for a year now."
Ocean: "It was a blast, now send me to someplace where I can get warm - this weather is a bugger. BTW, where am I going next"
Jones: "Good question, not sure yet, but I am going to see if Heather wants to have a go at you next - I'll make sure you're the first to know."
Ocean: "Sound good. I was just wondering one more thing though."
Jones: "What's that man?"
Ocean: "What the heck is that smell anyways - the one that smells like oysters whenever we go down to the valley?"

Jones: "That would be the pulp mill; and that smell, as 'they' say, is the smell of money. Have a safe journey my friend, and I hope our paths will cross 'again' in the future."

I'll make this a contribution to 'how do I measure up' as well - hence the 'showing off' of my collection.

Come to think of it, I walked right past you at Brickworld. It's a shame that I only recognized a couple people there. You know, on second thought, maybe it's best I did walk right past you?

I was doing okay until I got down to your collection; then I had to stop and wipe the drool off my keyboard! I don't know how this adventure ended, but I hope the little guy got home okay!

I KNEW that was IKEA! Wow, I really want that system. Oh, and JD, totally unlisted, sorry. But we should go to a SeaLUG meeting sometime. I've been wanting to do that and I can't get Youngy to go.

Quoting Sean Kenney Lee, I love your storage system... what are you using? It looks like IKEA PAX wardrobes with COMPLEMENT drawers, no? I thought about using this exact same setup. How does it hold up? Do the drawers come out? Do they take the weight well?
You have a good eye - that is the exact system I am using. The doors were a large pain in the bottom to build, but worth it. The komlement drawers do come out, but you have to leave enough space between them to be able to do so. The dividers can be a bit brittle, but I only know that because I cleaned everything before I let my precious Lego touch them - bend the divider too far and snap. Lee.

I have to say, I was stunned by the natural beauty of where you live! Even the view from your room is spectacular (but then the pulp mill picture ruined it). Of course, I'm also jealous of your collection.

Not sure I want to know from where or from whom he learned that little "cliff" trick. Always knew there was a reason Aussie's kept so many sheep around. Thanks for the tour Lee! Now put some clothes on, the shrinkage look is not doing you any favors. ~ Chris.

I own plenty of Star Wars sets. I just don't build them, I use the pieces to make better stuff than George Lucas does. And I'm disappointed there was no shot of Ocean being trampled by a herd of elk in Banff.

Hey! No more ZZ Top jokes! Urghh. Also, what kind of medical conferance was that? To see the medical results of over-eating and self-combustion? Good day

The new lego room turned out great. I can't believe how organized it all is. Between you and Heather, I feel obligated to start organizing my own collection, but I'm still too lazy.

Boy, I could dive in to that drawer of bley 1 x 2's myself! The storage system you've created is absolutely beautiful. Makes me want to chuck my set up and spend the big bucks on storage like that...but I'm not one of those neighbors that's always trying to keep up with the Jones' (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). Terrific collection, sir! Can't wait to see what you do with all of those 1 x 2 bleys!

Worth the wait man, worth the wait. So much Banff, so much food, so much Lego. I do hope Lil' Jones' coccyx heals quickly...

And I had FINALLY put enough room between the Sterling's collection post and when I was going to post mine, and then YOURS goes up! ARGH! That is the best looking sorting system I have ever seen. I've got to have that when I get a LEGO room of my own. Looks like the litte roo had a great time. Hope he's ready for some fun times here.

It looks like little Ocean had some fun, there. Nice collection. (man am I jealous)I wouldn't be surprised to find a few pieces missing in the pockets of a certain Aussie...

Well done. Nice collection -- as Heather mentioned, a superb sorting system too -- but I don't think I'd like the weather much up your way!
