Optimus Prime with Apex Armour
Trailer than transform into a base and merge with the cab to form a bigger robot.
About this creation

This is an enhanced version of Prime's trailer with inspiration coming from
Powermaster version of the toy.  The trailer transform into a base with
ramps to hold fellow autobots. It also turns into a body to merge with the cab
to become super prime.

Some achievements:

  • not a single part need to be separated during
transformation between modes (except the cab obviously). Even the guns on the
side of trailer stays there till it becomes the shoulder cannons.

  • Making the back half the trailer to do what a
trailer does, that is as a compartment to store cars, energon cubes, whatever.

  • Making him articulated

Some gripes:

  • never able to design a more secure wings/flap.

  • the way his head is tucked/mounted are pretty
weird, like a zombie head sticking to a pole.

  • never able to make the trailer backdoor to flip n
touch the ground to become ramp for cars to drive in.

  • last minute design of the component tat connect the
cab to trailer. this component end up sticking out of super primes butt.

  • Articulation is no use when the joints can't take
    the weight. argh!

   Yeah.. i'm alive!

   Trailer from bird eyes view

   Show the back

Now to transform, pull up the top flaps

Pull down the side flap and take out the arms

   separate the back into 2

After a few more steps which i'm lazy to snap photo of, it become the base

Base view with the cab on the main ramp. Actually i don't think it can take the weight that long.

   Cannons to protect the base

   South platform

   North platform

Another version of the base, now with 2 main ramps.personally I think this is cooler.

Now to start transforming him again.

Fold up the platform to make the leg

Rotate the torso around and deploy the arms

Now stand him up and use the back ramp to hold him a while

Now the armour is ready for final merge!

Then the flaps are raised up and secured on the back to become his wings

Closer look. The connect between the wings and his back are the most fragile one.

Back of the legs. That's as far as I can go tucking some of his kibbles and trailer body behind his legs. Lucky it doesn't affect articulation. phew!

Yay.. done! The robot mode u've all been anticipating.

This one's cute. Stepping on 20th Anniversary Prime's coffin.. eer box.

Quoting jordan gibbs awesome!!! i think you should build optimus with jetfire together, that part of the new movie was cool
Exactly what I intended to do after seeing how the real combined toy from Hasbro/Takara can be improved. Either that or I'll make a MOVIE Prime with apex armor. Wish me luck :)

Man, after having seen the 2007 live-action movie, it seemed impossible to me to stack a 100 feet-tall robot into a truck or a car... you've just proven me wrong! Keep up the good work! (and there again, can you make instructions?)
