P-90 Firing Mechanism
An explanation of how my elastic-powered FN P-90 submachine-gun worked.
About this creation
As promised, pics and descriptions of the firing mechanism of the P-90 smg. See below for details.

I would just like to reiterate that this gun must first be cocked, and then a bullet must be loaded manually (the magazine does not hold any bullets!) before it is ready to fire.

PS.
I've been inundated with requests for instructions recently. Sorry, but not only do I not have time to make instructions, but also the models have usually been dismantled by the time people ask.

This is a picture of the gun cocked, which you can see by the postion of the grey wheel to which the elastic bands are connected.

The two pieces which the light is reflecting off are connected pushed up by the trigger when firing (might be easier to see them in the second-last photo). From here on they will be referred to as the slopy-bits.

This picture shows after the gun has been fired. Note the forward position of the grey wheel.

Right. See the rod going all the way through? See the three half-bushes at the front end of it? The bit sticking up behind them is what the slopy bits catch when the gun is cocked (see last photo).

Here you can see that it is cocked. When the slopy bits lift up, they release the bit sticking up bit and the rod shoots forward and strikes the bullet.

Now, the trigger assembly is quite large. It is sprung, as you can see. When the trigger is pulled the white part pushes the two slopy bits up, releasing the aforementionned sticking-up-bit.

Here you can see that a bit more clearly as I've outlined it in blue.

Here the slopy bits and the sticking-up-bit are circled so you can see them a bit better.

Very good realism again Tom, congrats! I think you should show us what you are using for bullets, though! Is it semi-automatic, or do you have to cock it each shot? How do the bullets turn round 90* from the magazine to enter the chamber? How many rounds does a mag contain? (All these unanswered questions are the reason for the 4-stars :-P)... I love how you get the complicated firing mechanisms to fit inside the realistic shells on all your guns... it must take ages to do, right? -David
