How.... How.... How is that even POSSIBLE!! That thing is HUGE! You must have an unlimited supply of LEGO. The biggest model I've ever built only has a peremiter of twelve feet four inches, and doesn't even COMPARE as far as detail! (note: I don't have anything on here yet because I'm not entirely sure how to upload stuff, help appreciated) The second I finish typing this, I'm adding you to fave builders. |

Why do you guys put that white paper stuff on the creation?????
Those are plastic bags that act like a drop cloth. I glue these sculptures, and I need to make sure I don't drop any glue on the bottom of the model while I'm working on the top. The glue is a very strong chemical... if I dropped a dot of it on the model, it would deform the plastic and make the sculpture look really bad. (Great question, by the way!) |

OK, I'll try to answer everyone's questions ... ~ ~ ~ ~ Yes, it's built around a steel frame. The sculpture is only 18 inches deep (and about 6.5 feet tall) so the steel frame keeps it upright and stable. It is, after all, on public display and even though it's glued you don't want it to fall over and flatten anyone. :) ~ ~ ~ No, I'm not a LEGO employee. You can read more about my relationship with The LEGO Group at http://www.seankenney.com/about/ ~ ~ ~ ~ I did buy a LOT of light blue directly from The LEGO Group specially for this project. But all the pieces are from currently-available LEGO toys... no special production or anything like that. (Yes, kids, you too can do this at home!) :) So other than about 20 non-rectangular LEGO pieces, there are actually only about 10 basic LEGO elements in there... 2x4, 2x2, etc. ~ ~ ~ In designing the sculpture, I gathered as many photographs of the DSi as I could, and then used graph paper to plan out the basic shape and size and all the visual elements like printed lettering, buttons, slots, and so on. Eventually Nintendo mailed me a real DSi and I took hundreds of measurements, from the depth of the buttons to the width of the tiny bevel around the edges. The tiniest detail is the two "metal" pickup contacts in the power port (yellow light sabers). ~ ~ ~ ~ Ah, and It's always amusing how many people tell me I need a life. :) I say, to them, in my best valley-girl voice: "What-EVerr". ... hee hee ...

Even though your not an employee, you have my dream job! I hope to help LEGO design better mechas when I'm old enough for the job. The Exo-Force and other mechs LEGO comes up with are waaaaay to underdetailed! PS: What ever happened to Izzo Yoshi? I haven't seen much from him even on Brickshelf, and since you're the sight's owner, I thought maybe you might know. |

The last picture is my favorite. It's as though the guy is doing a double take ... I think he sprained his neck.
What's even funnier is that he was walking with two other businessmen who were doing the exact same thing, all walking really fast with their necks craned around like they were on swivels! The photo of all three of them is hysterical, but it blocks the sculpture so I didn't upload it. :) |

Yes, this is why I haven't posted anything in a while. :) And, no, I won't be buying a DSi, because I've had one for a few weeks now, http://www.seankenney.com/portfolio/nintendo_dsi/large/13.jpg |
