This 3-story building has a post office, the department of motor vehicles, the a courtroom, and the mayor's office.
About this creation
The Government Complex was constructed in the "International" style of architecture, common in the late 1970's and the 1980's. The most common feature of this style is the "vertical striped" facade. The World Trade Center in New York was built in the same style.
The Government Complex was constructed in mid 1998, but due to structural integrity problems, it was torn down and rebuilt in early 1999. In early 2000 it was retrofitted with real electric lights.
The building is hinged down the center so that it can swing open easily and allow access to all the floors. The vertical "stripes" easily hide the seam. The building is 32x16 studs, built on two 16x16 baseplates.
Originally, it filled half of a 32x32 baseplate, with nothing behind it. I even had made an addition at one point, making the building an "L" shape. Unfortunately, I had built the building using stacks of 1x1 bricks, and it was VERY unstable and VERY crooked looking. (Since 1x1's dont stack straight all the time.)
I eventually tore the building down and rebuilt it from scratch, making it taller and stronger than before.
The Brick Apple's Department of Motor Vehicles is much like any state DMV... a big long line and a dink at the counter that doesn't know what they're doing. Everyone hates going, but you have to, so why complain?
The Mayor's Office takes up half of the third floor, and has a really nice vaulted cieling. (See the lava lamp on his desk?) :) In the top of this photo, you can also make out a real electric light that is fun-tacked into the dome of the Lego light.

(and you have a good apprentice with you too)

I must say this is an excellent creation. It looks very good and is a very detailed piece. The building is very good and has a nice colourscheme. I have never been to New York but this looks like the pictures I have seen. On another note, as much as I like MOC pages, I feel there is something I must say because it has been bugging me: Why on the Homepage in the 'Across MOCpages' section, is it always between Commander Fed and Andreas Hottler? There are more than two people on MOCpages. I feel some not so recognised people should be able to be recognised. Are these things randomly generated, because if they are, they are extremely biased. I am sorry to be whinging on this excellent LEGO Creation, but I feel I must get it out. Can you please respond on one of my MOCs, and also leave your opinion of that MOC.
Many thanks, Slip Knot.
