Confederate Ship Springfield, open hull freighter
About this creation
Following a new tradition, the Springfield is named after another well known anime/manga character. She is about 150 studs long and designed to be an "open hull freighter" - similar to a flatbed truck.

The whole ships "cheats" to attain the 100 stud "SHIP" status with a frame that is reasonably flimsy. I also think the modular construction detracts from the ship's appearance (I mean, it's a cylinder slung under a stick). No sophisticated building techniques are used (I loved cramming all that stuff into the crew quarters, but it's still all Studs on Top), only a little SNOT is used around the engines and bow area. The only thing I'm really quite satisfied with are the engines, but since it is my first attempt at a large scale MOC, I think it's reasonable as a whole.

Build time was roughly a month, and absolute build time was around 30 or so hours.

Overall view: you can see that "Cylinder slung under a stick" shape.

Engine close up. Power Puller got raided for these.

Entire engine assemble. Attaching it to the frame was a major pain. There are two fuel tanks under the tail fin.

Airlock and command module. The command module is designed to hold three people, but the crew's quarters only supports two...

Crew's quarters. Refer to the "Interior" folder for details.

An unfeasible way to attach crates. Since I couldn't make enough crates, I was never able to devise an efficient way to carry them.

Defense turret (Against pirates?) and steering thrusters.

Some of the only SNOT on the ship is shown. Note the window on the back of the command module.

great ship!

Reminds me of the ships from the game Freelancer, but it's a bit too flimsy for my taste. Anyway, it's still decent.

Heh, I like this idea. It's a cheap way to get a decent capital ship. Nicely done!
