Transporter
Minifig-scale remote control transporter featuring living space for two minifig crew, powerful directional headlights, all terrain manoeuvrability and a pneumatic cargo lift.
About this creation
This transporter was partly inspired by vehicles from movies such as Aliens and Rockfish . It features living space for two minifig crew, powerful directional headlights, all terrain manoeuvrability and a pneumatic cargo lift. It might be used for mining operations, as an armoured personnel transport or a terraforming equipment service vehicle. The pneumatic lift allows cargo to be driven on and off, and when raised gives the machine a high ground clearance for rough terrain.

Construction notes:
This was relatively easy to build - the complex part was giving structural strength whilst retaining a large cargo area. I enjoyed mucking about with the living quarters for a bit, then built backwards from there. The centre of the vehicle contains the pneumatic cylinders, structural supports and the wiring for the lights at the front. The cargo bays are mounted side-saddle, and are slightly different in size (the larger one has more hinges on the door, because I've only got 3!) and the smaller one has to fit around the steering band. I store the vehicle with the cargo bays down, as they take some of the weight off of the wheels. There are lockers which store slide out tool trays, equipment and fuel rods. There is a large one on the back that can store rocket launchers etc, stuff that isn't worthy of the large cargo bays. The vehicle uses the RCX for controlling power to the two motors (one for each rear wheel - no diff needed!), and one motor for steering the front wheels.

What's that I see through my NVGs...?

Driver poking his head up through the hatch - there is a slide on the floor that he stands on to look out, and slides out of the way for him to sit down (this was due to the depth of the hatch etc... he wouldn't have been able to look out otherwise!).

   Crane attachment folded for travel.

Crane ready to use, cargo bay up with door open (for some reason). Crane is manually operated, but can be used to load and unload the large cargo bay.

Main beam - this can be swivelled left and right using the grey knob - it is "geared" to a turntable via a small rubber band.

Hopefully the crew won't mind having to jump to reach the bottom rung of the ladder. There is a viewport that the driver can look through (left), and a secondary headlight that also provides internal lighting (for living quarters and cockpit).
