HDF-ARFSU-STTLV-262 "Achilleus"
A heavy defensive mech for use in the CFS armoured divisions. Interestingly, it took only two hours to build...
About this creation
Alright, before I begin, this build was inspired by one word: Brute. Dali Zheng posted a potential early name for what is now the Venus Savage, calling it Venus Brute. This inspired me to make a hardsuit, which quickly (literally) evolved into this. The entire build time, not counting arms (they were built beforehand) was slightly over two hours.

The HDF-ARFSU-STTLV-262 "Achilleus" (Heavy Defensive Frame, All Range Fire Support Unit, Single Tread Tripedal Leg Variant, Model 262) [name pronounced a-kill-LAY-us, it's the Greek version] is a slow, yet incredibly powerful defensive mecha design for use in the CFS armoured divisions. To increase it's speed, it was the first CFS mecha to use tank treads incorporated into the leg design, allowing it to ride on the tread to move quickly. In a standard combat formation, these mechs are in the second line of defense, firing at foes from further away and protecting the units behind them with their massive shields.
The name 'Achilleus' is derived from their immense power and stature, and their one glaring weakness-- the body of the mech is mounted in such a way that it cannot turn around to face foes behind it.

Weaponry:
1x CC-21-Ex.P-ULRHL-KAPSDDEW- (Coil-Cannon, Model 21, Experimental Prototype Ultra Long Range High Latency Kinetic Armor Piercing Shockwave Dispersion Directed Energy Weapon) Nicknamed 'Kapsu' (after a mispronunciation of the last part of the name), this weapon fires a bolt of energy around a projectile the size of a BB. This projectile is coil-cannon fired, and creates so much electrical discharge that it actually appears to be on fire as it travels through the air. This shockwave actually parts the air in front of the projectile and melts it into a form of varying state plasma, which is used by the round to penetrate armored targets.
1x 8BLV-HAPRC-'M'C-.95Cal-M1- (8 Barrel Long Version, Heavy armor Piercing Rotary Cannon, MAKAI Chambering .95Calibre, Mark I) Nicknamed 'Thor' because of it's incredible destructive power and huge amount of noise while firing, the gatling cannon mounted on the front of the 'Achilleus' is an incredibly powerful weapon in close quarters. It's blistering rate of fire, alterable midflight trajectory and armor-piercing ultrasonic rounds allow it to easily outpower almost any other weapon at close enough range. Generally reserved for armored targets due to it's voracious appetite for ammunition-- it's capable of eating through it's 150,000 round magazine in under 30 seconds.
2x 'M'-AIMG-M2- (MAKAI Anti-Infantry Machine Guns, Mark II) Mounted on the frontal tread leg of the 'Achilleus', and used against infantry and light aircraft equally. Each has a seperate 24,000 round magazine in the tread pod that can be replaced by ground personnel.
24x AT-AMPV-MISS-048- (Anti-Tank Airbursting Mass Production Variant Multiple Internal Separation System, Model 48) Missile tubes. Nicknamed 'Miss L'aunchers' by field troops due to the ending of the name, these fire multiple airbursting rounds simultaneously-- like a roman candle raining fiery death on enemy armor. One shot from all 24 mounted in the shield could destroy more than 200 enemy light tanks.
1x HAA-MRCB-AP-L- (Heavy Anti-Armor Multiple Recycling Compressed Beam Armor Peircing Lance) 'Mortalis abs moles belli' Mounted for use against enemy mechs. An extremely powerful weapon, the power of Lances are diminished in an atmosphere (due to interference particles diffusing optical weaponry), so the beam is compressed to increase range to more than 1800 meters.
1x HVTC-DEW-Ex.PLPW-M6- (High Voltage Tesla Coil, Directed Energy Weapon, Experimental Prototype Lightning Projection Weapon, Mark VI) 'The Shocker' uses an extremely tightly wound Tesla coil, it's voltage directed through a series of conducting loops around the actual coil, to generate massively powerful short-range electric fields that jump to oppositely charged objects. The magnetic field generated by these electric waves induces a net opposite charge in nearby material naturally, so the weapon fires out bolts of 'lightning' at any nearby objects when in use. These bolts are in excess of a million volts in power, and create their own EMP field when striking nearby objects. The 'Achilleus' is proofed against EM fields, but opposing mechs may not be so lucky. This weapon is also capable of frying ground troops, and can be forced into the ground to conduct a charge across it for 100 meters if the charge is strong enough.

Statistics:
Max Groundspeed: 65k/ph
Max Boosting Velocity: N/A
Max Terminal Boosting Velocity: N/A
Max Airspeed: N/A
Armor Density, body: 1.2gj/cm
Armor Density, shield: 3.6gj/cm
Fuel: 22 hours continuous operation

Detail pics:

I'm particularly happy with how the weapons turned out. The shield, also, looks nice, although it's hard to tell there are missile boxes in it. But, right now it's like that one guy from 300--
"Raise your shield, spartan!"
...

The joints that I used here are Bionicle joints, despite all the warnings not to use them, and though the arm could originally raise the shield fully, somewhere along the line that stopped working...

Also, the pilots of CFS mecha heard about a similarly named corporation providing all their cockpits with leather seating. These pilots refused to work until at least one new mech was fitted with such seats. Unable to compromise with their workforce, the governing body granted them this wish...

Overlooking the field of battle, the chariot of Death never tires...
As an aside, the Photoshop here isn't too good IMO, but whatever.

Hey-- what's this? It looks like he's disco dancing! Actually this was a pitiful attempt at making an action pose, the idea being that since the mech has no way to fully turn around, it rides almost like a motorcycle on long, sweeping turns, and to quickly face an enemy behind it has to force it's weight out.

ALEX!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!!! You finally made an account, I see. Well, I watched most of Gurren-Lagann last night, because it arrived on Friday like I hoped it would. I'm also now in the last area of Xenosaga Episode II, because Episode III arrived on Friday, too. Have you made any progress on your giant SHIP? Oh, and thanks!

Quoting Michael Labelle Your creations blow my mind. Enough with the small talk. I am old school of architecture and no expert in the mech world and I haven't search the entire universe of the kind but I must say from just a quick look that you are building the Bentleys of mechs.
Thanks, although I tend to think of them more as military weapons and less as showpieces. There are a lot of other great builders just here on MOCpages that I look up to, like Brian Kescenovitz, Phong Chang, Dali Zheng, etc. so be sure to look around a bit more. Thanks again!

Sure, and frankly, I'm flattered. I generally do a lot of weaponized stuff, but I have a new entry in the works that will be very, very neat, I think... Anyways, what kind of help did you need? (maybe put this in an unused topic column in FORGE, if you don't want too many people to know your idea this early?)

Quoting Dali Zheng Hey Toby, I modified it again. Instead of wheels, it now has 40 tooth gears. This surprisingly helps it turn on carpet and I did this so I can hide the wheels.
It makes sense that this would improve turning ability on carpet-- it'd give more grip. I did buy some Power Miners stuff, because even though the sets are (IMHO) not very good, the parts they contain are excellent. Now I can work in your theme, so expect something from me in it eventually.

The simple answer--no. I might be able to draw up a parts list based on these pictures, but I've already disassembled the torso section. I also don't usually make instructions for any of my stuff, and I'm not very good at working with LDD or the other virtual LEGO design programs. Sorry.

I'm not so sure... Anyways, for anyone here who cares, I'm making another CMC entry, and it's 75% done already (2 hours build time). it'll be in a different category, so I won't have to remove my old one.

Quoting TCC ! after a bit of thought it's not so much that it has three legs, but just one leg that leads to a large tread, and a couple of arms to balance itself with. I think because you are using the term legs for all three that people assume it sort of walks along with the supposrts.
What else should I call it? It's a jointed limb attached to the front, which, despite being the primary support, is also complemented by smaller jointed limbs off to the sides for balance. Plus, since there isn't a pic of it 'riding' the middle leg, it wouldn't make much sense to call it anything else. I referred to it as a leg to reduce potential confusion, and in the description it says it turns kind of like a motorcycle, too.

Quoting Andreas Höttler Interesting idea with the third leg, although this time it would look better with 2 legs, I think. However, the details are as fantastic as everytimes and the your creativity is seeable, too. For example the chaingun has some great construction elements.
You think the chaingun is really nice? I didn't try too hard on it, it was actually made for another MOC, although it does look good IMO. Thanks! I was actually originally going to make it a four-legged mech, but then I got this idea, and it sort of...snowballed...

Ironic that you say mutated, yet your avatar is from Fallout 3. As for the third leg thing-- most of my mechs have three legs, but all the others have the third leg in the back, not in front, so I wanted to try a slightly different design.

I might make the Pirouette in my CMI theme or VC, but I might not do VC because I'm short on white and if I do decide VC, then I need to buy from Bricklink. I could easily do CMI with parts that I have right now, though. I'd rather do VC but if I'm impatient I might make it CMI.
I think it'll look nicer (as in, much nicer) in VC, but if you do a more 'Brian Kescenovitz-esque' thing with it it would look good as CMI too-- think his ARGENT APC. Oh, and did you like my terrible pun (Miss L'auncher)?

Quoting Phong Chang Really, I don't believe your maturity should be determined by your humor. Just because you find something immature to be funny doesn't make you immature as a whole. People all have different styles of humor. Besides, I'm a really mature guy, but people often doubt that due to my sense of humor. Real maturity is determined by your skills in judgment, your values, your honesty, your integrity, open-mindedness, and your ethics. People who call me immature just because of my humor are close-minded to the possibility of having a different style of humor, so ironically, they're being immature. Then the begin to argue with me, which brings me to acting mature and owning them. Then they whine and still declare me to be immature right after my display of superior maturity. It's such a deceptive thing for me. People will underestimate my maturity, just because they are too focused on my humor. Just because I have one immature asset, they assume that I'm totally immature as a whole. They don't bother to pay any attention to how mature I actually am. It really bothers me when people think that the style of humor I have is immature. If you find something to be funny, laugh. You can't help it. It's not an immaturity. <(^,^<) PS: Nia is your fav TTGL character?! I woulda expected Simon, Kamina, Viral, or Kittan. Or Yoko if you were were a perv. LOL! JK!
I was never calling YOU immature, I'm just saying that it's immature humor. I wholeheartedly agree with your point here, and I'm sorry if my idea was misconstrued. As for the rest-- I do really like Viral (he's my 2nd favorite, for sure), and Simon after the beginning of part II. Kamina is awesome, but I was strongly bothered like his... lack of involvement (to avoid spoilers, Phong) after a certain episode. I don't know why, but I strongly dislike Kittan... he just bugs me...As for Nia being my favorite character: nothing can compare with the part in episode 17 where Simon pours his heart out to her, she sits there looking really pretty, and at the end of his epic proposal--"Nope!". Plus, I have no idea why, but I really like her character even though she acts like a total idiot at times.

Which is ironic, considering your best theme is almost all white. Oh well, we can't have our cake and eat it too. I'm SUPER low on tan-- as in, less than 300 (good) parts kind of low. I would probably sort by color and use, separating bricks, slopes and tiles into roughly color-coordinated groups. Sometime I really should do that, I have leftover closet space...

No, the leg is jointed so it can pivot underneath the body to put the mech's weight on it. The other two legs would brace the sides of this assembly. I'd show a pic of it, but the mech is already disassembled.

Quoting Phong Chang My parts used to be sorted by color, but then I got lazy, so they're scattered across my small bedroom floor. (Why do I have such a small room for a big house!?) I think I might actually combine the Revelation, ALX-Ruiz, and Bayonet if I feel it'll work out.
Just keep color coordination, and you'll be fine. Don't overuse your orange, it's a great accent but can be overpowering. I'd recommend a red overall scheme, with a dark bley frame and orange accents, if you're trying to use all three. But, you could try unusual accents, like on Izzo's 14-HR, where it's white overall, with dark interior (on yours, bley) but with unique accents in orange and dark blue. I don't have practically any orange, or dark blue, or dark green, but I make do with what I do have. Also, my LEGOs are stored in 4 bins that are 2' by 4' by 9", and they're all almost overflowing. I also keep roughly four thousand black, white and gray parts out at a time for my CFS projects, these are just on my floor, and I have a few bins in my closet filled to the brim too, so I know very well your part-finding frustrations. BTW, the Lazengann-inspired mech is still WIP, and won't be up for a while. The pics for this mech are taken by me, with florescent lighting, if you're wondering.

Hey, don't worry about it, it's (reasonably) normal. One of my friends once showed me Bevis and Butthead for two hours-- THAT is immaturity, in a nutshell. And, Phong sometimes overuses it, especially on the Revelation (no offense, Phong).
  April 29, 2009
Did you have all of the parts together or something? Cause that way, I can see how it only took about 2 hours. Finding parts takes the longest. Infact, While working on the Revelation, I spent a whole 4 hours looking for the right parts one day, because whenever I wanted a certain amount of the right piece, I came up 1 short. It happened multiple times trying to find a better part and having that one short! I didn't even get to build that day, because I couldn't find a part that I had 4 of that would fit the arms! Gaaaah! I was sooooo aggravated! In total, I probably spent about 6 hours finding parts, 3 hours changing my mind on designs over and over, and 2 hours for the build itself.

It happened multiple times trying to find a better part and having that one short! I didn't even get to build that day, because I couldn't find a part that I had 4 of that would fit the arms! Gaaaah! I was sooooo aggravated!
I know what you mean. when building the 'Macahrius', I once spent three hours looking for a part, only to find ten of them the next morning underneath the WIP mech's leg-- doh! But, this mech was made from parts that I had originally taken out for another MOC that were conveniently there when I got inspired. Originally, the other was going to be more or less a tank with arms, but this turned out much better. I really should sort my parts, huh... Most of my black and white reserves haven't even been tapped into yet, but I have a large number of MOCs in those colors.

Quoting Toby Heinemann Hey, don't judge like that... A lot of my stuff has three legs, but this is the only one to have the third leg in front.
lol, sorry, but my immaturity kicked in as soon as I saw the frontal tread... (that's what she said...) pluss I was just on phong's revelation (that's what she said OOOOHHHH!!!!) .... I .... I don't think I can stop... darn you phong... O_o

Quoting Phong Chang Pretty neat for a 2 hour MOC. However, I can hardly tell what it is. Is it a tank? Still pretty neat.
No, it's a three legged mecha with the front leg using tank treads for higher speed on the ground. Think of it kind of like a motorcycle, with the rear legs being the rider's legs hanging off the back. It's in my 'old' CFS style, not like my newer stuff, so it's more like a 'Vertical Tank' than a mecha in the sense of your works, though. Think Western mecha design, like my Macharius, versus Eastern mecha design, like your stuff. Anyways, thanks!

Quoting TCC ! lol, the giant tank tread protruding from the front is kind of distracting, but innuendo asside. this is really great, and has MAD GREEBLES! it kind of reminds me of the transformers from the movie, and how when they were in robot mode they had all these tiny intricate details to them. Great work!

Anyways, thanks for the compliment on the Greebles, I'm happy with how detailed I got it without it seeming like too much detail. I actually really liked the Transformers movie, which is weird because I hated the show... Thanks!

omg! LEATHER SEATING FOR THE WIN!!! haha. I might make the Pirouette in my CMI theme or VC, but I might not do VC because I'm short on white and if I do decide VC, then I need to buy from Bricklink. I could easily do CMI with parts that I have right now, though. I'd rather do VC but if I'm impatient I might make it CMI.

Quoting Dali Zheng Only 2 hours!? Dang, you have building talent. I was also not expecting something this big. I'm not sure how this would conceptually maneuver, though. Does it walk with its two "legs" and balance on the tank tread? You have quite a knack for making awesome looking things out of obscure parts, great job!
The idea is that it rolls along on the tank tread, and uses the other legs for balance when it gets into position. It's a defensive mech, so it doesn't move too much once there. But, I just realized I didn't mention in the description that I took all the photos for this one myself. Also, on the 'two hours' thing-- the arms were already built, and they were by far the most complex part. I don't really know how I can do stuff like that, it's a trance-like state for me when I make LEGO sometimes. Thanks! BTW, did you get the reference to your Ceres Metal theme?

Quoting Nowhere man Wow... you have to look at it for a couple of minutes just to see how it works. Then you have to stare at it for awhile to to see most of the details and realize that it's brilliant. I'm not gonna go and say that this is your best mech because that's my personal opinion. I'm saving that praise for the mech you sent me concept drawings of. But this is still extremely excellent and far above what 70% of the users here can do. (That being said, 70% of the users here slap a decal onto a trooper and take a picture with their cell phone camera and post it). Terrific mech. Keep on building ~ Nowhereman
Haha, I know what you mean about the multitude of Halo/Starwars/Call of Duty 'builders' out there-- there are some truly great, and some... best left unspoken of... As for the rest-- thanks! I was a bit worried it'd look too 'bristling with guns'-y, but I think I did okay. I'll go look at the convo page once I'm done commenting here-- I can't use the computer for long today, and I've been off for a few hours because of this already. Thanks again!
