About this creation
April 9th/1917/Captured German trench
Today the photographer gave me some photos he took of us going over the top, and I pasted them in here. Going over was easy, the whistle sounded and we climbed out into no man's land. There was hardly any fire towards us, and we captured the German trench in a few minutes.
The guy in front of me is my Captain, he has been hit so many times that I think he's a zombie. Today, he led us through no man's land like it was his house, none of use got hit, or stepped on mines. He got promoted a few hours ago.
The only danger to us was our own shells, the Germans weren't shelling us for some reason, so we were pretty safe. One of the jerries climbed out of his trench and ran towards us, but he got hit by a shell. Poor guy.
A landmine, one of the many that were planted in no man's land.
