What was once the Imperial Voidfighter is now the Grimm's Army Cloudbreaker fighter! Yeah, I was going to call it the Thunderclap, but I decided to use that for Grimm's bomber, if I ever make a bomber for him. I took all the advice people gave about my Voidfighter, including giving this one a better engine... and using a white posterboard background. I wish I could use my dad's old photo setup that he used for eBay (I used that for my photos of the Halo 2 Warthog), but he doesn't have that set up anymore. So I had to make my own. It's not quite as nice or as well-lit, but it does the job.

The Cloudbreaker is a much sleeker and less junky-looking vehicle than most of the things in Grimm's Army. This is because Grimm originally had almost no aerospace craft. When he earned enough money to afford one, he purchased a special design from an advanced aerospace fighter company. Since they were so expensive, Grimm makes sure his troops keep them nice and neat. They have to fight with the Victorians a lot, so it makes sense to have a good fighter.

And the Cloudbreaker is a good fighter. It's tough and heavily armed, yet fast and extremely agile, with additional boosters used for turning, as well as a tail flap (seen here) for atmospheric flight.

The machine gun array can be seen on the wing here. Capable of dishing out a shower of Blazer bullets on enemy fighters, the Voidfighter is the ultimate anti-fighter fighter. This was Grimm's purpose in purchasing it, since it is his only fighter except for the Thunderclap bomber.

The main differences from the original Voidfighter design are the color scheme, the direction of the wings (they now curve forward instead of back), the lack of the engines on the wings, the new guns, the new tail, the new rear engine, etc. In fact, it's actually quite different! Only the cockpit of the ship recieved no changes (except the little pointy beak below the noce, heh).

I was quite tempted to call it the Buzzard or Vulture, but I wanted a more original name. Here you can see the air intakes on the wings. At least I guess that's what they are. I thought the wings needed something after I removed the original guns from the Voidfighter concept. And I've been itching to use these dark green slopes from the Jormundgand (also known as the Midgard Serpent). LEGO Vikings sets RULE!!! Buy some now and support my current favorite line!

The tail is much beefier this time, and it actually looks like it serves a purpose. I like for things to serve a purpose, even if sometimes I'm sort of just making up excuses. But I think they're pretty good excuses. Take my Fox Ear Radar dishes on the Fox and Manegarm for example.

The engine is split in half by the tail. The body of this fighter is an odd number of studs wide, which made it rather difficult to build, but was necessary for the tail and the split cockpit to look right. Basically I wanted it to look like it had a blade running through the middle of it.

The blade has a green outline on top, as if it has been cutting into aliens. Or green cheese. Or your mom, who is both.

Here's the pilot. As you can see, the windshield opens up just like the cockpit on my Xarkon Thrym Siege Tank. I liked the idea and wanted to use it again. No neural link helmet this time! Isn't the pilot cool, with his classic LEGO sunglasses head? LEGO had made a lot of pseudo-cool heads now, like the punks in Alpha Team, but none of them match the pure coolness of a classic smiley with sunglasses.

The cockpit. I'm not good at interior decorating. For example, if I had to design my own house myself, it would all center around the computer, and all rooms would be connected to the computer room directly. Much like my cockpits, I just like computers. Go figure.

I could have sworn I already wrote a caption for a picture from this very angle. Bah, I snapped too many. It's hard to write captions for pictures that look just the same.

Unless I'm not counting something that I should techinically be counting, this ship is COMPLETELY STUDLESS once again! Haha! I've gotten to the point where I start building studless things reflexively now. It's a new thing for me.

Oh no! HIDDEN STUDS! But the wings don't come up like this normally, of course. And they wouldn't stay down at the proper angles if I covered the studs with tiles. Anyway, the missiles. They're necessary, because some ships are still even more maneuverable than the Cloudbreaker. When it can't catch them in a storm of machinegun fire, out come the missiles.

The belly of the beast. I've noticed something on my trips around LEGO pages. Most photos of ship's undersides are accompanied by a caption saying "the belly of the beast." So here's to tradition!

I saw that this was MoTD and was thinking to myself "wow, someone ripped off Justin Stebbins's fighter design!" Then I saw that you had made it yourself. Haha way to go me! I personally like the all-black void fighter more, but that might just be a matter of personal taste. Anyways, nice work and congrats on MoTD. |

Great! Even better since the pilot has the "classic" shades head! I'm gonna use more of them now I think about it...

Nice...Nice...backdrop...and odd-stud width! OOhhh...hard. I like the wings...and of course dark green (my fav colour). The wings curve looks ver nice, along with the low sland of the entire ship...I like the back engines, but the light grey on the sides takes away a bit...but that's just colour issues. I would like to see what you put in that big bulky body though...and oh! Hidden bley! *GASPS!*. I don't mind the landing gear though, it works. |

Well Scorp. Its about time. I like it. Its a cool design to begin with, but It doesn't have the Star Wars feel I think you originally wanted. For some reason it reminds me of the Valkyrie from StarCraft.I'm not quite sure if I like this design or the old one better. I think this one. It has kind of a Jade Empire feel that's oh so tingly. Good job! It sure is sheckshy, no? :P Anywhoo, it still resembles the Voidfighter which was sorta meh, but it's better now, cause green fits it more. The only thing I don't like is the green stripe going down the center of the windshield. Still, awesome. |
