The Red Baron
A mini-fighter piloted by Ben Doverman
About this creation
The Red Baron is piloted by Ben Doverman, one of Rafe Tokor’s oldest friends and perhaps one of the finest engineer/pilots in the galaxy. Ben secured his reputation at 15 years old when he built his first “puddle jumper” and won the prestigious Earth-to-Mars rally in spite of never having flown through deep space before.

When Tokor went rogue after the United Planetary Council admitted Moro to the UP, Ben disappeared into his hoverbay garage and emerged with the Red Baron. His mini-fighter proved popular with Rafe’s pirates because they can “swarm” UP craft manned by Morons and quickly disable defense systems with minimal damage to the ship.

The pirates’ campaign against the UP seems to be mainly directed at keeping strategic galactic resources and technology away from the inhabitants of the Moro system – there have been a number of instances this solar cycle where pirates were sighted by ships from the Sol or Andrulean systems but were left alone.

Ok, enough backstory. This is my second mini fighter based around Space Pirate’s cockpit box design. (His name and my backstory are completely coincidental, btw. See my White Lightning moc for more of the story – no, I have no intentions of building a Moronic ship at this time.) Once again, this fighter is bristling with weapons and there’s not much in the way of greebling, but sometimes people get too caught up in trying to make Lego look realistic – for God’s sake, why? Real is no fun.

Why a Power Miner as a pilot? Why not? I like his expression and the helmet is vaguely space-like to me. Plus, he was the first fig I pulled out of the box. Yeah, that’s how I roll.

Yes, there’s more white than red to this MOC, so Red Baron is a bit of a misleading name. The white bits just haven’t been painted yet. When Ben pulled it out of his hoverbay for a test run, he was so happy with her that he flew straight out to meet Rafe on the Shenandoah to join the pirates.

Good God, as if I didn’t have my hands full trying to come up with story ideas for Glomshire Knights, now I’ve got another story to think about . . .

Man, I love this hobby!

Quoting Chris Phipson So let me get this straigt... Ben Dover was so excited when he pulled it out that he had to race off to join the pirates? hmmm... Great builds but sometimes I wonder about you. Hey, do Snoopy next in his Sopwith Camel! ~ Chris.
