TIE Tactical/Transformer
The TIE Tactical or TIE Transformer, an advanced multipurpose fighter.
About this creation
My personal TIE wing fighter,
don't get confused by the main picture, this fighter has actually equal wings.
If I would take a picture of one of its bearings you would think it's just an ordinary TIE fighter with a new name

Now it looks like a regular TIE fighter but the constructors used its wide wings as an advantage by placing weapon systems on them, It's easier for a pilot to hit a target that way.

The fighter changes its wings depending on the situation.
it rotates its wings 90 degrees.

The wings extend at the front.

Then the wings fold so the fighter looks a bit like a TIE interceptor.
in this form it has other weapon systems to use (notice the flickr missiles).
it is now faster and has a better evasiveness.

The wings of a TIE fighter actually consist out of solar panels, the TIE tactical uses the solar energy to run its engine, which is different if you compare with the regular TIE. Because it has a hyperdrive it is doesn't have to rely on space stations or star destroyers as a base though it wasn't the most comfortable spaceship for long distances.

While developing the TIE Interceptor, the Empire tested a prototype of an advanced TIE fighter, the TIE Tactical, also known as TIE Transformer. But it was difficult for pilots to fly and use the full advantage of the TIE Tactical, many test pilots just kept on flying in the same bearing. so after the test models they weren't produced anymore. The TIE Interceptor, a faster and deadlier version of the TIE Fighter, was more interesting due to it lower costs.
But the TIE Tactical didn't disappear either. The test models that where left where used by skilled pilots and special units of the Imperial army, who often add weapon systems and upgrade electronic parts. Only the best pilots could make this fighter a most deadly weapon of destruction. Darth Vader's TIE Advanced is actually inspired by the Tactical.

Wow!!! This is awesome!!! When I saw the first pic, I thought it was weird and uneven, kinda like a TIE bomber (always hated those things for some reason), but when I read more and discover it transformed into different modes, I was like "Awesome!!!" I also like the idea of a solar hyperdrive, that would be very useful.

now that is very cool! i think the idea of tactical reconfiguration is very interesting ( the idea of switching to missile mode for attacking big stationnary targets and drop a single heavy salvo before running away or attacking smaller targets is just great... especially if you consider you dont have infinite missiles)... i also like that you chose the unsymmetrical TIE to show as main pic. it catches the eye a lot:) good job!

Swiss Army knife...LOL umm yeah, my first thought was similar to that of Steef...but it's a great idea, I'm not sure how useful it is...finding out that you would need some missiles in the middle of a fight might result in frustration, followed by destruction...I would prefer to have all my weapons available at any time...so I don't have to switch to missile mode beforehand...:P

Oh wow! That is VERY nicely done! When I first saw the first pic, I laughed and thought it was all just a big silly. But then I saw the wing rotating and all, and my jaw dropped a bit ;)
