SPI Mission Commander JX Class
Hey everyone, Yep, hi again. For those who don't know me (seriously? jk) I'm Brickshipyard and I love to tinker with some lego bricks. Lately my main focus has shifted from building Star Wars mocs to rediscovering the magic of classic space (or neo classic for the ultra historians out there). This ship technically is, well, my first remake of a space vessel that was commissioned by TLC back in the late 80s, think 1989. The attraction of the ship for me is it's sleek profile, features, and weapons! I am not weapon crazed by any means but indeed!, how can the Space Police be seen as a threat to rebellious Blacktrons if they don't have the weapons to back them up??? Well the original SPI M.C. certainly was well armed, but I had to take it a step further. That is why I call it JX class- the J stands for "Justice" and the X just sounds cool next to the J.... Anyways, my version comes with 2 medium lasers at the front, 2 heavy and longrange wing mounted laser connons, 2 missile launchers (that fold down), and finally 2 rear wing mounted rapid fire lasers with hemispherical coverage (meaning they can turn and pivot all over the freakin place!). That's a lot of drain and output for a ship of this size and therefore, the middle of the ship packed with reactors and systems to power both these guns and the two engines. Which brings me to the next big upgrade. The engines haven't been redesigned, but rather added b/c the original ship utterly lacked any propulsion, a pretty big flaw which had Blacktron laughing at them as much as the world laughs at Chris Crocker. Quite hilarious, I know ;). Anyways, the JX Class ship sports 2 incredibly powerful ion engines, perhaps one of the fastest ever activated in the SPI Fleet. Only a few Blacktron ships are known to be faster at sublight speeds. Another feature I added was landing gear (just 2 for the rear) that folds up. To be honest, I really didn't spend much time worrying about it and what I did is still 5X more effort than what TLC did for the original of this ship. It works and supports the weight of the ship, nuff said. Oh yeah... back to the front. When I first started to work on this ship I kept the cockpit single. Well it was looking ugly with the wings right behind it. Then I looked at the SPII main ship and realized those designers got it right. That mean two cockpits set up in a "helicopter" fashion. Right behind the upper cockpit is a sensor array. My ship's Captain (yet to be named... any suggestions? because as I develop more CS space I want stories...) sits in the front and flies this sucker. The guy behind him is the Main Gunner/Communication Officer. And under them is a compartment that can hold 2 officers. You will note in the pictures that the panels fold down to create decks with turrets (yes the walktalkie lol) and a ladder that extends. Behind this portion of the ship near the middle is a storage compartment. At the rear of the ship the best features are the wings that extend for flight and fold up for more speed (this sorta was a feature of the original). On top I have kept the radar errr dish and repositioned the red trans pieces that house the little flying craft. Ya know, so our brave officers can make arrests without having to walk or run too hard ;). Heh Finally, below that is the main storage capsule, 90% true to the original one on the first ship. I made it a bit more airtight, but that isn't saying much. Basically it houses two jail cells and the vehicle wagon- WHICH.... used to be in the front, but I found this feature too space consuming. Well that about concludes my introduction. I'll try my best to give picture titles. Please feel free to make comments, criticisms, and suggestions for my theme or next build! Also, I can only post so many pictures here so if you want to see like, literally, 50 more, go to Mocpages and look up Brickshipyard. Thanks for looking.

I loved the old space theme (though I wish I had the sets). This has cool detailing and style like the classic. Great job!

Thank you Forsberg brothers(right?)haha. Glad you found much to like about my American building skills ;). As for your Swedish ones, I must say you both have some really cool Space skull vehicles (like the AT-ST!) and the Star Justice dropship with 6 wheeler tank! Very awesome. I'll be giving some reviews when I get a chance. Thanks to you both again. cheers

Quoting Jason B. Great SP remake Kyle. The wings are a vast improvment from befor, and I like them. I will be send ing pics of the new fighter soon. P.S.The commander should be named Jet, or Your own namw, but spell Commander with a K instead. Great to talk again.
Thanks Jason. Yes I was thinking of naming this ship "Jet ... something" but couldn't quite come up with anything. I plan to do a smaller SP ship that will actually be a "Jet" and deserve such a designation. See you on yahoo. Cheers.

I wanted that set SOOOO bad when I was a kid, but I had my pretty Blacktron Renegade to play with so I was happy!! But what an upgrade that is! WOW! Wonderfully redesigned, and the weapons coverage would make a Allied Avenger shake is bubble cockpit right off! Great MOC!
