The Real World Story: I didn’t have much of a plan when I started this build. All I knew was that this model would be based loosely on the Sci-Fi vessel Serenity from the TV show Firefly and is set in that universe. It is supposed to be a smaller, newer version of the standard firefly. I started by building the bridge and cargo bay and then attached the two sections. On the second day I build deck two above the cargo bay, and finished the engines. I built this set over the course of two days. It is my first set in over a year. The last set I built was a 2’ long gunship that also had a full interior. This set took about 30% of my legos to construct and is my largest Lego model to date.
The Story: After the final order for 03 type Firefly was fulfilled for the Whitefall Mining Company a Interstarcorp Ship Deign began work on a new firefly type design. This new version of the classic transport would be smaller and more appropriate for the role of a short range civilian transport. The only major technological advancement of the class is in its fusion gravity drive which is smaller and more heavily automated than earlier Fireflies. The ship was scaled down to about half the size of a standard Firefly and the aft dorms, medical bay and aft lounge were removed. The upper lounged is actually larger than that on a standard Firefly lounge in order to accommodate the increased number of people often aboard. The Cargo bay is a modular unit and owners can purchase several types of cargo bay which can be changed out for different cargo missions. These include liquid stores, heavy cargo, light cargo and a two deck passenger container. After this simple conversion the class can easily support 90 persons and their cargo for short journeys. During wartime the Browncoats commandeered many of these ships to act as troop and cargo transports and two .50 cal machine guns were added above the cargo bay door to protect exiting troops. Some ships also received a dorsal mounted short range guided rocket launcher, although as the war dragged on this expensive upgrade became less and less common, and some ships even had their launchers removed. After the war many of these ships fell into the hangs of pirates and smugglers as well as legitimate cargo companies. These ships are known for their durability and dependability.
This particular 04 Firefly is named the Peaceful Night and is used for smuggling runs. It has been fitted with extra cabins on B-Deck, and retains its wartime .50 cal machine guns.

Thats a nice ship! The color mix between black and blue is little bit "hard". The shape of the ship is hiding behind this kind of camouflage. Perhaps light and dark gray or blue and light grey would have been better. But the ship is great and I always love to see the interior built!!
Thanks, this was my first build from long before I had any gray parts and very limited black. Check out some of my newer stuff. The colors are much more realistic. |

Nice design. I think its an improvement over the one from the show. Like the color too, makes it look more advanced.
