AXF - 4 Spearhead
The AXF-4 Spearhead is the final result of the experimental anti-captial ship program. It is quickly becoming a deciding factor in large fleet battles for the Red Faction.
About this creation

AXF-4 Spearhead

Capital Ship Strike Fighter

Classification: Advanced Experimental Fighters (AXF) Role: Capital Ship Assault
Manufacturer: MANTA Industries First Flight: 15 December 2205
Status: Experimental Number Built: 12
Atmospheric Flight: No FTL Drive: N/A

The Spearhead program was started in 2198 to explore ways to effectively neutralize enemey capital ships with a small fighter craft. The AXF-1 through 3 focused on fitting a single capital scale weapon on a small craft, which led to a variety of problems. The AXF-4 was a new approach focusing on using smaller more accurate weapons to target and damage strategic systems. The result has proven to be quite effective.

The AXF-4 is designed to approach capital ships at high speed, then cruise along the surface of the vessel making strikes against specific systems. Two key features of the Spearhead facilitate this: the gravemetric close flight system (GCFS) and a pair of industrial grade fusion cutters. The GCFS creates an attractive field between the Spearhead and a large ship. The field both holds the ship close to it's target and prevents it from crashing into it, holding the spearhead at a distance of a few meters with no need for pilot control. This allows the Spearhead to cruise along the surface of a larger ship at highspeed while the pilot focuse on weapons.

The other key feature of the AXF-4 are the industrial grade fusion cutters mounted in the nacelles. These cutters are very effective at both destroying weapon systems and sheild generators. Additonally, a small group of AXF-4s can work together to quickly decimate the hull plating of just about any capital ship or station. While this is not enough to destroy a ship, it makes it a much softer target for more traditional anti-capital ship tactics.

The Spearhead has only been in use for a short while, but it's success in recent key battles has garnered a lot of attention. It will likely be moved from the AXF program into regular production.

That's a shapely critter. I like the well placed touches of color too. Just curious: why did you start the "New England" topic in GUWP?

Just wanted to tell you that I uploaded a construction shot of my fighter ;) Feel free to use the technique. Oh, and when looking again at that ship of yours, did you ever think of using stickers rather than decorated bricks? I just started to use them recently. Gives you much more possibilities and I think some of them might even look good at this one. Just an idea though ;)

I am not sure if anyone has said this but the vessel that you have built, Ian, almost looks kind of like a Cylon Raider (from Battlestar Galactica) or more like a Kilrathi vessel (you know, the bad guys from most of the Wing Commander series). This is not a bad design (in fact, yours is a quite good one) but it just reminds me of those things is all.

Very innovative build, nice lines and compact impression. I really like your eye for detail and your backstory really enhances the impression of this great fighter. Keep 'em coming!

Wow, not only is the spaceship good, but 5/5 for presentation! I like lots of detail, but with the amount of info you chip'in I think I know so much about a AXF 4 Spearhead, I could have lived in one my whole life! Very nice moc, and the colour scheme is good too! And about the gears4engines - I think its great because its rather unique, its not seen around Mocpages often. Great work on the fighter!

Quoting Josh Barron-Proeliator of the 74th floor How do you get your page in that format? It is siiiihack!
I'm a web designer, so I know how to do some inline CSS and HTML. This design is just a small start.

Quoting Mike 3579 I like the... R2 bodies as frontal weapons, the hoses in the back, the cockpit (but I would suggest using a different colored chair), and finally, I like the colors. 5/5
Yeah, unfortunately I only have yellow and blue chairs. I will have to include a few black ones in the next bricklink order.

Quoting Space Pirate wow, now that's a nice fighter, great colour scheme, cool shape and you actually built an interior...I like it ;) oh and it's great that you didn't call it "white and red fighter" :D
Yeah, the color based naming was more a result of my lack of time than a lack of creativity. I plan to fill in details on the other MOCs as I have time.
