These are a pair of swans I built as a centerpiece for the head table at my wedding. A friend of mine, Tammy, gave me the idea to create a swans sculpture for the wedding, as my then fiancee' was allowing me to put a little LEGO in the ceremony somewhere (mainly the reception).
But what she showed me was a bit small, I wanted something more noticable. So I printed out picture after picture of real swans and went to work. In case you're curious, the species I was going after is called the "Mute Swan".
I went for the Swan-Boat look, so that the swans could be filled with fake greenery. I did this also because I didn't want to run too low on parts. My (then) fiancee' though the result was so fantastic that she asked me to make a second one.
And being that kind of guy I did!
My mother designed and arranged the fake flowers and foliage in the swans, and together I think we did a great job.
This is the first picture I took of the first swan. I specifically did not use slopes or SNOT construction because while I wanted the sculpture to look like a swan, I also wanted it to look like it was built out of LEGO, since so many non-LEGO fans would be attending the event.
