A pair of swan sculptures for my wedding.
About this creation
These are a pair of swans I built as a centerpiece for the head table at my wedding. A friend of mine, Tammy, gave me the idea to create a swans sculpture for the wedding, as my then fiancee' was allowing me to put a little LEGO in the ceremony somewhere (mainly the reception).

But what she showed me was a bit small, I wanted something more noticable. So I printed out picture after picture of real swans and went to work. In case you're curious, the species I was going after is called the "Mute Swan".

I went for the Swan-Boat look, so that the swans could be filled with fake greenery. I did this also because I didn't want to run too low on parts. My (then) fiancee' though the result was so fantastic that she asked me to make a second one.

And being that kind of guy I did!

My mother designed and arranged the fake flowers and foliage in the swans, and together I think we did a great job.

This is the first picture I took of the first swan. I specifically did not use slopes or SNOT construction because while I wanted the sculpture to look like a swan, I also wanted it to look like it was built out of LEGO, since so many non-LEGO fans would be attending the event.

I know it looks like I built the swan out of tan bricks, but it's really white.

I sculpted part of the tail so the foliage didn't have to cover too much.

Testing what the greenery might look like.

Here's a shot I took of our rings. Not a bad shot.

Here's a shot I took after I built the second swan. The second swan is identical in form to the first, but I was running low on parts so it was built out of much smaller bricks.

Given the swan's graceful little curve on it's neck, is it any wonder where mankind got the idea for the shape of the modern valentine heart?
