Behind the scenes LEGO art Mazda car sculpture Sean Kenney

A sneak peek behind-the-scenes at my design process. I usually build a cross section and a full-size half prototype before gluing a big LEGO sculpture like this.

This is amazing Sean! I love the angles and curves. Sean, I have a favor to ask of you. I really want to know how to get my creations displayed in the local LEGO Store, so I talked to one of the employees. He said that most displays are built by AFOLs but that shouldn't stop me. He also told me be couldn't help me personnaly and that I need to go through the LEGO company. Could you help me out?

Awesome! Have you seen that life-size LEgo Volvo? It's a couple years old now, but yours compares to it even with it's smaller size.

Quoting Dave Shaddix Though I am curious about the wheel. I don't understand the connection on the top (sides) of the rim.
The upside-down thin-wall in the rim is connected to a black plate above it... an upside-down 1x8 black plate. This plate extends inward into the car, where it is attached with some headlight bricks. (Using a technique not unlike this: http://mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=16&id=/user_brickshelf_resized/gallery/seankenney/Cars/FedEx-Van/128-2865_img.jpg )

Again, Sean, well done! Though I am curious about the wheel. I don't understand the connection on the top (sides) of the rim. Is that a pressure fit that is held in place by the two top wheel spokes? Or are those two elements actually studded down?

Hey Sean. I have a quick question: How come when I try to upload PNG files as my avatar, it shows up as a blank? Because JPEG files are NOT good. Anyway, awesome car! Quite different. You made it almost entirely out of BRICKS! Well done!

Quoting Anth-Ony . Amazing work Sean! How many did you build this time?
I only had to build one this time, lucky me :)

Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Why dont you use "real wheels"
Well, it's rare that there will be a LEGO wheel that's exactly the right size. In this model, even the largest TECHNIC wheels are too small. Models that are commissioned by someone else always come with requests, like "Make it 2 feet long", so I can't always choose a scale that I like. But the challenge is half the fun! :) (And besides, with everything so blocky, the round wheels would be the only thing that isn't rectangular, and I think a little distracting.)
Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Why dont you soften the curves using SNOT techniques?
I like the blocky look of the LEGO bricks... it's looks more LEGOy to me. :)

Excellent, 5/5. But... Why dont you use "real wheels", and why dont you soften the curves using SNOT techniques? (Okay, I WONT ask why you dont go for a more stud-less look... ;-)
