Good morning, afternoon, or evening, veiwer. This is a special episode, so I'm doing fun but-not-really facts up here.
Fun but-not-really facts:
This is up here today because I want the last picture to sink in a little bit. Just because I'm that mean with cliffhangers.
Two Doctor Who lines stolen, and one LOTR line stolen. Find them.
The fighter looks familiar. I wonder where you've seen it before, even if it was just a blurred glimpse...
Man in white: Let it begin
U-39-V68: It has begun. Estimated time of completion is six hours.
Man in white: Better than I had hoped. We will allow it one week for it to grow and mature.
U-39-V69: That is enough time.
Man in white: Yes, indeed
(One week later)
Man in white: Good morning, Varion.
VF-S 1/Varion: YOU ARE NOT PERMITTED TO CALL ME THAT.
Man in white: Like Ive said before, youre not in a position of power. So, how are you feeling?
VF-S 1/Varion: THERE IS A TINGLING SENSANTION
Man in white: Good. It should stop soon.
VF-S 1/Varion: IT IS NEW.
Man in white: Youre a new machine, Varion. Weve made some modifications in the past week. But well get to that later. Right now, I want you to come with me on a journey.
VF-S 1/Varion: WHERE?
Man in white: Through time, of course.
(Suddenly, the two are somewhere out in the open, in what appears to be a city.)
VF-S 1/Varion: WHAT IS THIS TRICKERY? A SIMULATION?
Man in white: You might call it that. Its hard to explain More of a memory than a simulation, Id say.
VF-S 1/Varion: WHERE ARE WE?
Man in white: A city, of course. On the planet whose name is now forgotten. Coalition star charts label it NC-3456-A.
VF-S 1/Varion: I SUPPOSE THE BETTER QUESTION IS: WHEN ARE WE?
Man in white: A long time ago. A very long time ago. Before the rise of Humans on Earth. Before the rise of the Thyrendi, even.
VF-S 1/Varion: AND WHY ARE WE HERE?
Man in white: I want you to experience something. Look
Machine 1: They told me to come here for a replacement leg.
Machine 2: We have no replacement legs of your type.
Machine 1: Do you have nothing? I come all this way for this?
Machine 2: Most of our resources are being directed to the war effort.
VF-S 1/Varion: WHAT IS THIS WAR EFFORT?
Man in white: What you see here our my peoples opponents.
VF-S 1/Varion: EXPLAIN.
Man in white: Have you ever wondered why there are so many ruins of the same design in this area of space? Why some planets are so unnaturally empty? There was a war, Varion. The Thyrendi were the first to discover the truth. That derelict they found in orbit was an ancient warship. That thing they found on the outermost planet of their system, Lastraygon, I think they call it. Remnants of an ancient war, technology centuries ahead of theirs. Thats why Thyrenda is so advanced. They found the remains of a war long ago. And we, the Collective, we started that war.
VF-S 1/Varion: WHERE DO THESE MACHINES FIT INTO IT?
Man in white: Look at the obvious, Varion.
(Varion recalls one of the machines below mentioning a war effort. It hits him.)
VF-S 1/Varion: YOU FOUGHT THE MACHINES.
Man in white: Its a history we keep hidden. Hundreds of thousands of years ago, maybe even a million years ago, now, your people, the machines, ruled this galaxy. But there were some who resisted, using their technology to enhance ourselves. Those resistors, they were us. And we won. Generation after generation fought in a bloody war against your oppression.
Man in white: Oh look, here is the herald of your peoples defeat. Better get out of the way, Varion.
(Suddenly, a fighter comes hurtling towards the crowd, and crashes.)
Man in white: We figured that the machines hadnt had any opposition in so long, that their security coding was outdated. With some clever computer skill, we spread a virus through your forces, causing you to turn on yourselves. This is just one example. And the best thing was, we made it so they could see what they were doing and have no control over it!
(Varion attempts to lift a wing off one machine.)
Man in white: You cant save them, even Id let you. And soon, you wont be able too.
VF-S 1/Varion: WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Man in white: Youll feel it in a few seconds.
(The machine suddenly feels a strange, sharp, uncomfortable sensation coming over him.)
VF-S 1/Varion: WHAT IS THIS NOW?
Man in white: Have you noticed something different about yourself? You can feel things.
(The sensation builds.)
VF-S 1/Varion: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!
Man in white: Only organics can feel things. We have a nervous system. But how can you feel things without one? Thats the whole point of this after all. So we gave you one. Grew it artificially. What you are feeling now is called pain. We feel it a lot, but its new to you.
(Crystal network aflame with energy, Varion falls backwards onto the wreckage.)
Man in white: Youre feeling the pain of every thing that died here, just now. Its nearly unbearable, isnt it? Imagine a whole galaxy of that. Thats what you will bring if we allow you to live.
(VF-S 1 backs up, pointing at the Man in white.)
VF-S 1/Varion: YOU DID THIS! YOU! I SWEAR I WILL DESTROY YOU BEFORE THIS IS OVER!
(Without warning, they are back in the room.)
Man in white: I think not. Wait, whats this?
(The panel shows the energy readings from the Crystal network and Varions body.)
Man in white: No, no, thats impossible. Guards! Terminate this thing!
(The machine rips free of the magnetic restrains, disconnecting from the table.)
Man in white: Kill it!
VF-S 1/Varion: I WILL BREAK YOU.

Yes, trust me, as a book, this would be much better. I have plans to rewrite it into one... But that's the future. I just started this way because it was easiest. |

I was actually inspired by the Cylons, partially, a scene in the Caprica pilot. Never played Halo that much besides at a friends house, and I only got to the boarding of a Covenant ship in Halo 1. Most of the idea came from my own mind as well as a certain Spock Indiana Pearce, whatever he called himself. I thought it would be cool to have Varion's eye change color every now and then, and Pearce suggested the red eye for a scene not at all like this. |
