About this creation
THis is probably the smallest, most articulated robot I have designed to date.
I have a phobia of spiders, but mecha spiders rock my friggin' socks. Think about how precisely they move and react to what goes on around them. Jumping Spiders especially.
Jumping Spiders are some of the most intelligent arthropods. They actively hunt their pray, rather than waiting for it to land in their web.
They can jump fifty times their body length and are so fast that without a slow motion camera, they seem to just disappear off of the screen. The human eye can't even follow it.
Their eyes are situated so that they can watch not only in front of them, but behind them as well. They literally have eyes on the back of their head!
The large crushing mandibles are designed for catching prey, injecting venom, holding, and sucking prey dry. They are ruthless and efficient hunters, economizing on movement in their hunt for food.
That, and they, like all spiders, look so extraterrestrial. No other creature on earth looks anything like a spider. Not even a scorpion.
So I built this robot replica of a jumping spider to use in the Star Wars Stop Motion I will be working on. Based on current droid Technology, I'd say that nearly 1500 years later, they would have this level of articulation and be fairly speedy. They can even jump to attack their victims. THe Sith will be fighting one or two of these. Might even do some of that foreshortening you see a lot of to make them appear smaller for jungle scenes.
As you can see, there is one piece in particular that has been literally cut in two to make part of the thorax (rear end) and cephelathorax(Head and frontal body). I do not know where this part came from. It was part of a bulk set I got from someone.
It has a winch for climbing down large cliff faces and buildings.
It has two small blasters mounted on either side of it's head that can rotate independently. The canons on the thorax fire a variety of ammo, kept within the thorax, ranging from flares, to SRM and LRM, Ground to Air and Anti-tank rounds. Their armor can withstand light sabre impacts.
