BSE Medium-Heavy Class Assault Tank ABT-1200
Medium-Heavy class ABT-1200 Assault Tank for the Black Sun Empire's and-based military.
About this creation
Hi,

As a second installment for the Black Sun Empire, I decided to make a tank-style ground unit.
This wasn't too easy, as being meant to be sci-fi themed, I wanted it to look different to a normal tank, and to avoid being gunned down by all the master chief wannabes, I wanted it to look very different to the Halo Scorpion, too.
The result was this treaded-track, armor-platted, but open assault tank, which seemed just on the borderline between Heavy and Medium class (I was going to call it heavy, when I thought how big a star wars AT-AT would be in comparison).

The ABT-1200 assault tank is a heavy duty land attack unit. It's tracks provide all-terrain movement, and are propelled by a powerful engine; though, due to the weight, it's top speed is limited; though still quite fair.
Contrary to a 'traditional' style tank, the ABT-1200 is an 'open' tank, with flat armor plating above the tracks, a walkways in front of the cockpit and in the main body to give quick access to either side of the vehicle, to quickly attach enemies that might pop up from an unexpected angle, and to keep a good 360 lookout. Like the LT-800 Hovercraft, it has an open roof, too - which means occupants can shoot outwards whilst being protected by the tank's walls.
Like a traditional tank, the space between the tracks is slightly raised to avoid damage by land mines or obstacles on the terrain.
The interior of this open section is fitted with storage compartments for weapons and other gear, and there is direct access to the detailed cockpit.
On each side, the walkways above the tracks are fitted with two rotatable lamps to help track enemies and to see further out, in compliment to the four powerful laps fitted to the front of the vehicle. On the front of the tank, on either side, are fitted two very heavy medium-to-long range cannons, which are automatically guided by the Black Sun Empire's state-of-the-art tracking systems.
For short range combat, the tank relies on the firepower of the soldiers occupying it on the inside and outside, as well as two small fixed laser turrets fitted to the front, on either side of the cockpit.
The tank only needs one person to pilot it, though additional crew is recommended; and seeing the power of the engine, it could easily move the vehicle if it were packed out to it's maximum capacity of 16 crew members.
Also unlike a normal tank, this open tank has other advantages, in transportation, not only for the number of people it can carry, but for strategic flash-attacks on enemy bases : the tank is powerful enough to blast and plough its way through a fortified wall, and quickly unload it's small contingent of solders into the enemy base whilst wreaking havoc with the dual heavy cannons...

This tank is a force not to be reckoned with; and though not the heaviest, is often a favourite tactical choice of the Black Sun Empire's strategists due to its flexibility.

Just a reminder, if any of you like this, or my last BSE model, and would be interested in building more of these 'Dark Sci-Fi' (or maybe 'neo-blacktron II' describes it quite well, aswell) , I have created a group here on MOCpages dedicated to collectively making models of this style between us - the Black Sun Empire series of models isn't just soomething I'm making, we all can be part of it :)
Check out the group if you're invited : http://mocpages.com/group.php/5853

P.S. If you are looking to buy lego for your creations, I would like to recommend the following Bricklink lego shop ; "About Town, Castle & Train" ( http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=stacey_love )
I personally know the shopholders, and they are very nice, devoted people. They are currently sponsoring 100% of my 1/3 Lamborghini project, providing all of the parts; and have made various other donations to other models I have made.
The store has a wide selection of parts (over 600,000!), at good prices, and offer an exceptional, fast service (no tax or dodgy exchange rates, next day postage, etc). you won't be disappointed !

Quoting xXbrpwnrxX hax I like it it made me think about this type of tank but it was and epic fail anyways im working on this giant base and so far its about 3 feet tall and maybe 2 feet long in a square basically.nice job by the way
Wow that sounds huge ! 3 feet tall ? you could have loads of floors in that - where on earth are you getting so many bricks and baseplates from ? I made a fairly big base too, a star wars imperial base in a jungle/forest setting, but it's not nearly that big, and I had a hard time finding enough parts to build walls and flooring with... Dan

Quoting Peter Turner This MOC exhibits some stellar shaping-in spite of a lack of detail on the main hull (the area above the treads), it remains interesting. There is, however, the problem of the fact that it is extremely covered in studs, which distract from the well-done shaping. I'd recommend you tile over most of it. Other than that, though, this is a great MOC.
True, but there's a good reason for that... A) I'm 18 and have no money, the only lego I buy is big used boxes at flea markets, if they're cheap enough B) no income means I'm not going to start spending lots of money on bricklink orders to perfect my models, I make do with what I have C) I don't have any more black tiles, the few I had have all been used. No offense but I personally don't get the fuss with SNOT, I have no problem with studded stuff myself :) Dan

Haha, why not ? You never know people before finding out about them, it's normal :) Hope you like my stuff; my 1/3 lamborghini is the biggest lego car on MOCpages, though still underconstruction at the moment...

Black Sun Empire, hm. The theme is appealing; I wonder: is my VOAT Miss Behaviour in that that kind of league or does it all have to be minifig sized? I'm looking for a theme for some new spaceships, maybe this could be it?

Quoting Nicky B Very Nice, very Space looking though.
Haha that's exactly what I wanted it to look like :) The theme for my new group is 'dark sci-fi' , but that doesn't just mean spaceships - I tried here to make a sci-fi version of a tank, which apparently worked quite well :) Dan
