About this creation
Like many armies, Special Forces and other specialized troops are usually assigned, in groups of squads or detachments, but no bigger than platoons, to large units, like battalions, regiments or divisions. During the Clones Wars, The Grand Army of the Republic adopted this practice, partly by choice, but mostly by necessity. With battles raging on so many worlds and with so few trained Special Forces and ARC troops, the Republic was forced to commission hundreds of Special Forces and ARC squads and 6 man detachments. These units, while insignificant in number compared to line units, managed to complete hundreds of successful missions usually under circumstances that would have required dozens or even hundreds of troops and support personnel. For detachments, there was one officer and 5 non-commissioned officers of rank no lower then sergeant. For platoons, this was two officers and 9 commissioned officers of rank no lower then sergeant.
The 137th ARC Detachment was commissioned, like many units of it's time, after the battle of Genosis. Lessons learned during that battle and the significant casualties taken by Special Forces and ARC units, prompted a restructuring of the basic force structure. It was also around this time that units began adopting color schemes particular to the unit, regardless of rank. For the 137th, or the Blue Suns, the choice was Blue. On one of their first missions, the 137th was sent to Mon Calamari with orders to undertake numerous search-and-destroy missions. After the completion of the mission, the 137th returned to their ship and agreed on the unit color blue; a reminder of the oceans that the unit found so peaceful. The 137th is organized with 1 commander, Captain Paedur, 1 Light Repeating Trooper, 1 Rocket-Launching Trooper and 3 Riflemen. The squad is outfitted with enhanced comlinks and advanced armor. Their backpacks carry extra ammo, supplies and other sundries needed for extended missions.
The 137th specializes in extended Interdiction, Search-and-Destroy, and other missions, which involve disruption of supplies and supply lines. The Sun's also adopted battle skirts similar to the ones worn by ancient warriors on worlds Felucia and Mygeeto, a trend that repeated itself, primarily, within the Open Circle Armada. The 137th served admirably throughout the war, earning many decorations and medals and, unfortunately, more casualties the any other ARC unit, due to the high risks of their missions. On their last mission, the 137th was sent to wipe out the support facilities for the Separatist Forces on Utapau. They had barely made it to the surface of the planet when they came under fire; their transport was hit and crashed wiping out half the unit. The survivors fought their way within site of their target, where they too fell under the guns of the Droid Army. The unit was wiped out before they could receive the now infamous "Order 66", thus sparing them from turning on their Jedi commanders.
