BlackLight Mosaic I
This portrait mosaic doesn't look that good until.....you switch off the lights. :)
About this creation

Well, it's been a while since the last group of photos and here's why.

This is a 96x96 stud mosaic portrait. It's done on 32x32 baseplates with lots [and lots and lots] of round 1x1 neon orange plates - 9,216 to be precise. On top of those are transparent plates stacked vertically that are used to give various shades of the orange plates beneath. The more plates stacked vertically, the lighter the shade of orange.

However, this piece doesn't look particularly cool until......

...you switch off the lights and turn on the black light.

At which point, the orange plates become a light source and the image inverts so that areas with no covering transparent plates are lightest and conversely the areas where the transparent plates are stacked highest becomes the darkest.

Much more interesting! :-)

For areas that required a darker black I simply removed the orange plate on that spot.
