The successor to the MID mk VIII. It was built to eliminate the mk VIII's weaknesses. Because of this, it is suited for combat and for pacification operations.
About this creation
To commemorate their millionth anniversary of conquering the universe, Imperial High Command determined that their ageing MID mk VIII was due for replacement. In particular, the Neo-Void wanted a mech suitable for policing their outer territories. Enormous strides had been made in the Neo-Void’s technology since the inception of the mk VIII. The MID mk IX, codenamed “Nightmare” was created as the replacement of the mk VIII.
The mk IX was a large improvement over its predecessor. Though its diminuitive size remained the same, its power output and efficiency were increased due to the advent of the ultra-compact thermonuclear fusion reactor. The jump jets on the previous model were upgraded to flight-capable thermonuclear rocket engines, giving it high mobility in air or space, though it could not go transatmospheric without assistance.
The armor was upgraded to a heavier-gauge titanium-X alloy, and was provided with combat rated full coverage shields. For extra protection, the mk IX also carried an arm mounted heavy shield.
The mk IX carried nearly twice the firepower of the mk VIII. It was equipped with a medium beam cannon mounted on a shoulder pivot, and a bank of four low-yield, short range missiles on the other. For melee combat, the mk IX was equipped with a forearm mounted heat blade.
The mk IX was a large success. Where it lacked in firepower, its simple construction made for large production numbers. In addition, it was suitable for a larger amount of mission roles than the mk VIII, including combat. It was still in production when the Ancient Remnant was discovered, though it would fare poorly on a one on one basis against the Remnant’s highly advanced mecha. The mk IX would continue to see large production numbers during the next million years after its creation, though it would eventually be superceded and replaced with the newer MID mk IXA.
Nearly 800 Trillion mk IXs were produced over the course of the next million years. There are none remaining in service, as they were all field-upgraded to the newer mk IXA.

The mk IX's cockpit opens in a similar manner to that of the MID-001. Pull the chestplate up and out (I love those battle droid arms)
The pilot stands upright in the cockpit to save room (it works!)
Standard mk IX with augmented booster pods removed. They are mounted on clips, so they just snap on and off as needed.

I know you say your early stuff isn't that good, but these are still better than anything I could build! I love the design of the feet and head.
You know what though? I couldn't build what you build either. Better. Worse. These things really don't mean anything when it comes to MOCs. Everyone has their own style (or lack thereof) and everyone contributes something of value. Rather than better or worse, perhaps different is a better word. In any case, this is actually one of my later mecha. It started out as a remake of the mk VIII (because all I had were those blurry pics). But then I decided to just make it the mk IX and leave the mk VIII as is.

nice one! best early generation mech yet!
We're almost done with the early generation stuff. There's two or three more, and then finally, I'll be back into the good stuff again. Just bear with me until then. And, as always, thanks for the support :)
