Victorian Dragoon Aerospace Fighter
An aerospace fighter created for the "Victorian Vehicle Contest" on SSLF.
About this creation

This MOC was built by Matt on February 17th, 2006 for a contest on SSLF. The contest ends on March 15th. Hope we win!

The Dragoon is a medium aerospace fighter used by the Victory faction in Saber Scorpion's Nova Refuge science-fiction world. Victory is the second-richest and second-most powerful (Behind Xarkon) country on the planet of Terra Nova. The Dragoon is named after the cavalry unit from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries of the same name.

Dragoons were traditionally designated as medium cavalry. They were unique because; although they traveled by horse, dragoons were trained to fight on foot, making them a very versitile unit. They were also cheap to recruit and maintain, unlike regular cavalry, which were extremely expencive.

The Victorian aerospace fighter fulfills much the same role as it's ancient cavalry counterpart. The fighter is very reliable and cheap to maintain (unlike SAAB cars). They are also relitivley fast and will almost certinley succeed against similar Xarkonian medium or light fighters. But, they are easily countered by heavier fighters or bombers, similarly to the Victorian era dragoon being countered with true cavalry. The Dragoon aerospace fighter is also very versitile and versions have even been made with two of their cannons stripped off and their missiles removed, which were replaced with various sensors arrays and spy equipment. While being much weaker in combat, these versions off the fighter are very useful for scouting, and faster than the origional (because of the removed weight), so they can escape any Xarkonian patrols they may come across. These versions are also similar to later 19th century "light dragoon" regiments which were armed with sabres instead of carbines, and used for scouting and skirmishing.

Armament:

Four Plazma cannons (Two on each wing)

Two "Dragon" missile pods, each holding four rockets.

Speed: Faster than you can run.

Responce to reviews:

Timmy and Co. - We refer to this MOC as being "Victorian" because it is made for Saber-Scorpion's Nova Refuge faction "Victory". If something is from Victory, we refer to it as being "Victorian." This has nothing to do with the Victorian era other than the name.

Raschu - Thanks, the two fighters do look similar, maybe it's the SNOTted wings and the tips on the back of them.

The profile. Scorp's contest gave Matt and Alex an excuse to build Victorian MOCs. Thank you Scorp! We love Victory! (We both got Victory on Scorp's "Which Nova Refuge Faction Would You Join" quiz too!)

The cockpit. Like the custom "V" decals that Matt made in about 3 seconds? No, you can't have any. Go make your own.

Lower down, showing the landing gear (Alex's design) and one of the "Dragon" missile bays that Matt designed himself. See. Matt can make MOCs too.

The left wing. Like how Matt incorpirated SNOT into the design? Yes you do. Like Keith Goldman says, "you like SNOT don't you, you paste eater?"

The top. See how the wings are shaped vaugeley like a "V"? The tail wings are too.

   The back.

A 3/4 shot of the back. I like how the engines turned out. Matt *ahem* stole them from Scorp's Hussar.

The cockpit. Yes, a minifig can fit in there, oh ye of little faith.

   See what I mean, unbeliever?

The pilot and his beloved Dragoon. Remember kids, "there is no substitiute for Victory."

The belly of the beast, just like everyone says.

Nice work. You should enter this into Saber-Scorpion's Victory design contest if you haven't already. I think the engines could be more original though.

Wow! That thing is nice! I love the angular, sharp look of it. That's what I always picture when designing Victorian fighters. The V engines really help to tie it in with the Hussar too. A very well-executed creation. It fits perfectly with the rest of the Victorian fleet.

cool, like the style and size, although why call it "victorian"? i know it has "v"'s on the wings but... still good though.
